Rubie Lays Down a Bad Beat He'll Remember Forever

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante
Brendon Rubie
Brendon Rubie

Brendon Rubie pulled us aside to inform us of a hand he'd just won.

As he told it, he looked down at {10-}{10-} under the gun and opened with a raise. The player to his left, who he said had been folding nonstop for nearly two hours, then three-bet all in for 1,100. Action folded back to Rubie, and it wasn't much more for him to call. He expected his opponent to have {a-}{a-}, which he did, but Rubie made the call nonetheless.

The {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop gave Rubie a set, but his opponent had flopped an even bigger one. The only way Rubie could win was with the case ten, and wouldn't you know it, the {10-Diamonds} peeled off on the turn. The other player failed to catch the case ace on the river, and Rubie was the beneficiary of the bad beat.
