Welcome To The World Poker Tour Malta Main Event!
Just hours ago Matt Salsberg took down the World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris Main Event, netting himself 400,000 in the process. Now the long-running tour packs its bags and heads to sunny Malta where for the next week it will call the Casino at Portomaso home.
Last year's WPT Malta Main Event was the first-ever European-based WPT tournament to be played to a re-entry format and that trend continues through to this year. Day 1a kicks off at 13:00 CET and if you want to participate all you need to do is visit the cashier's cage and hand over 3,300 before the end of the sixth one-hour level. Should you or any of your opponents bust out before play comes to an end on Day 1a, you and they can re-enter on Monday's Day 1b for an additional 3,300 and have another bite at the cherry.
We are till waiting for confirmation of the schedule today but in the corresponding tournament last year, seven 60-minute levels were played and a dinner break was also taken. As soon as we have official word from the tournament director then we will let you and everybody else know the plan of action for the starting flights.
Last year it was Matt Giannetti (pictured) who flew back to his native USA with the Champions Cup and $273,200 after he bested a star-studded field of 240 runners to become the WPT Malta champion. Among those players who Giannetti had to navigate past on his way to victory included Marvin Rettenmaier, Tobias Reinkemeier, Steve O'Dwyer, James Akenhead, Fabrice Soulier, and the legendary Phil Hellmuth. Hopefully many of the same big names will be in attendance this week.
Lock your browsers to the PokerNews Live Reporting pages because we will be bringing you all of the action, as it happens, from the WPT Malta Main Event. Until then we are going to catch some rays!
