Hand #16: Eric Davis Doubles Through Steve Wong with Quad Treys

Hand #16 - Michelle Law has the button in seat 7. The preflop action is unknown. After a flop of {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, there was a bet and a call of about 100,000 between Davis and Wong. The turn card was the {8-Hearts}, Davis moved all in for 53,000, and Wong called with {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}. He was already drawing dead to Davis's {3-Hearts}{3-Spades} (full house). The meaningless river card was the {3-Diamonds}, giving Davis quads as he doubles through Wong.

After the hand, Wong drops down to 330,000 in chips.

The flop comes {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, and Brown flops a set to take the lead. The turn card is -- the {9-Spades}, and Buboi regains the advantage. Brown has a single out headed to the river, but the last card is the {A-Spades}, and Chad Brown is eliminated in 9th place, earning $32,592.

Quiet Crowd

The tournament area is eerily quiet compared to most crowds that sweat final tables. "This is more like a tennis match," commented Justin Shronk the multimedia manager from PokerNews. Well in tennis, at least the crowd clap after points. Thus far, this has been a very tame crowd.

Hands #13-14

Hand #13 - Cory Carroll has the button in seat 4, Davis limps from the small blind for 8,000, Wong raises from the big blind to 34,000, and Davis folds. Wong takes the pot.

Hand #14 - Eric Davis has the button in seat 5, Pham raises to 23,000, and Law calls from the big blind. The flop comes {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, Pham bets 30,000, and Law folds. Pham takes the pot.

Hands #11-12

Hand #11 - Vasile Buboi has the button in seat 2, Davis raises under the gun to 24,000, Pham reraises to 69,000, and Davis folds. Pham takes the pot.

Hand #12 - Justin Pechie has the button in seat 3, and Brown raises to 25,000, winning the blinds and antes.

Carroll vs. The Dragon?

David "The Dragon" Pham
David "The Dragon" Pham
Cory Carroll entered the day as the chipleader. On Hand #8, he won the first of what might be several pots against David "The Dragon" Pham. With the chiplead, Carroll can afford to play looser and see more flops than the rest of the table. The Dragon is a cagey player and has been known to play a lot of hands. The aggressiveness of The Dragon combined with the Carroll's big stack could mean some explosive action somewhere down the line.

The flop comes {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, Phan checks, Carroll bets 52,000, and Phan calls. The turn card is the {8-Spades}, Phan checks, Carroll bets 72,000, and Phan calls. The river card is the {9-Spades}, Phan bets 52,000, and Carroll calls. Phan shows {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for an overpair, but Carroll has {A-Hearts}{7-Spades} for a nine-high straight to win the pot.
