Day 1 Concludes with Ly in the Lead

Another Circuit Main Event has begun as Harrah's Atlantic City opened the doors and threw back the blinds on the registration windows in preparation for the $1,500+150 championship ring event. By the time registration closed around 3:00 P.M., 352 players had put up the buyin to get their names on the roster. Sixteen levels came and went with the number on the board steadily trickling downward. It stopped at 71 players at the end of the night, those survivors set to return for Monday's moving day, the push to the final table. When they do return, Tam Ly will be boasting the heaviest bag in the room, stuffing 287,600 chips in there for the overnight soak.
About three-quarters of the East Coast poker scene was eliminated today, it seems. Will "The Thrill" Failla, Chris Reslock, Mike Beasley, Al Riccobono, Adam Lippert, Kyle Bowker, Ronnie Bardah, Will Souther, Matt Brady, Jason Young... out they went, one after another, finally ending with Dwyte Pilgrim's elimination on the final hand of the night.
Those who didn't survive are mostly poised to do well tomorrow. Jeremy Schwartz finished in 16th place at the first WSOPC Regional Championship in Hammond, Indiana, and he's ready for another deep run as his stack of 254,500 puts him in second place. Ari "BodogAri" Engel found himself graduating up the counts steadily all day, spurred on by a few crucial hands. He finished up with 241,400 chips in his bag, putting him in third place behind the chip leaders. Just behind them sits Josh Brikis, whose late-night heater pushed him all the way up to 211,000 at the close of play. Todd Terry bagged up just shy of 180,000, and Matt Glantz is just behind him as well, and there are plenty of other mines left to dodge for the eventual champion.
Speaking of the eventual champion, we're set to get a lot closer to finding him or her tomorrow. The 71 survivors will return here to the Ballroom at 12:00 noon tomorrow, and they'll play down to a final table of nine.
