Klodnicki v. Selbst For the Chip Lead, Part II

Level 13 : 700/1,400, 200 ante
Chris Klodnicki
Chris Klodnicki

All right, here's an interesting one.

When we walked up to the table preflop, Chris Klodnicki had 9,000 chips out in front of him, and Vanessa Selbst had 24,000 in front of her. It looks like it had to be a three-bet and a four-bet, respectively, but we can't say for sure. In any event, we picked up the action live as the decision was back on Klodnicki. He wasn't calling, instead reaching for most of his high-value T5,000 gray and T1,000 orange chips and sliding them across the line. Selbst assumed he was all in, and she announced the call and tabled her {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}. But Klodnicki still had about 15,000 in front of him. We'll deal with that in a moment.

The flop came out {10-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}, and Klodnicki wasn't sure what to do. "If you have an ace, just stick it in there," Selbst instructed him. But Klodnicki checked and let her make the decision for him. She bet her kings, and he called all in as he announced, "I don't have an ace." He turned up {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} drawing to a nine-out diamond to stay alive.

Turn: {10-Diamonds}. Bink!

Selbst was now the one in big trouble, needing to find a king or a ten on the river to keep herself in contention. The river was the {Q-Hearts}, though, and chips are changing hands. Klodnicki is all the way up to 300,000 with that pot, while Selbst has been crushed down to just 10,000 lonely chips.
