The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana in the Louisville area to live report the $1,700 Main Event; however, that is just one of more than a dozen gold ring events that have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought wed profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #9: $400 No-Limit Holdem attracted 123 entries and offered up a $40,590 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 19 players including Merton Toler (10th - $779), Nickolas Syrigos (14th - $673), Scott Weiss (16th - $601), and Kathalyn Holz (19th - $553).

Poker grinder Tim Garles from Des Moines, Iowa began day 2 as the chip leader and stayed there on his way to victory.

I have been working really hard, my coach is Jeff Fielder, Garles said after his win. I definitely have to thank him.

He added: I am just going to keep playing tournaments.
