WSOPC #12: $500 Deepstack No-Limit Hold'em
Day 1 Completed
Fabian "lordof0513" Schmidt secured himself his first WSOP Circuit gold ring by taking down the WSOPC #12: $500 Deepstack No-Limit Hold'em at GGPoker for $90,943 in just over 10 1/2 hours of play after besting the formidable Oliver Weis in heads-up play.
The event attracted 1,445 entries to generate a huge $686,375 prize pool to decimate the $500,000 guarantee.
Today's victory takes Schmidt to $256,727 in tournament winnings at just GGPoker and those results eclipse his live results according to The Hendon Mob as those accumulate to just over $12,000. Schmidt kicked off the final table with the chip lead and only relinquished it once on the way to an impressive victory.

The day started with fewer than 300 players who could benefit from the Early Bird-feature during the bubble where they would be protected if they were to get eliminated. Many more players joined the field during the four-hour late-registration window with just 489 players remaining to battle it out once it was closed for a spot in the top 233 spots in order to get paid at least a min-cash of $902.
Canada's "Ivana" bubbled a little more than an hour later in 234th place but didn't walk away empty-handed. Instead, thanks to this player having Early Bird protection, they were awarded T$500 for just missing out on a cash.
The pace of eliminations was fast and furious until the final table was set a little more than three hours after the bubble broke when the ace-six held by Ronit "Songjoy" Chamani didn't hold against the king-queen held by Matthias "Mattinho" Auer.
Many familiar names cashed but didn't make it through to the final nine including Ihor "mochalov13" Mochalov, Andres "chokitin" Korn, Jessica Teusl, Justin "LappyPoker" Lapka, Ryan Riess, and Marty "RetremntFund" Mathis.
GGPoker has a feature where the blinds at the final table would be rolled back to where the average stack would be at least 40 big blinds. Normally, this feature would be in play but due to the pace of the eliminations, there was no need for it today with the average stack already over this threshold from the start.
Schmidt began the final table with the chip lead but this quickly went over to Weis as he sent both "Geniusbabies" (eighth - $12,127) Matthias "Mattinho" Auer (ninth - $9,094). Weis was cruising along with nearly half the chips in play before he doubled up Schmidt when his ace-queen couldn't get there against cowboys.
Schmidt then held a commanding lead and never looked back. Soon after "jerryv36" (fifth - $28,758), "UncrownedK" (sixth - $21,566), and 2020 WSOP International Leg Main Event final tablist Marco "fullbabyfull" Streda (seventh - $16,172) hit the rail in succession before the pace of play slowed down a bit.
James "MonsterCurry" Leong then earned a massive double against Ludovic "Gr4vyB04t" Geilich when his sevens won a flip against ace-jack. Leong wasn't too far away from the chip lead after the hand while Geilich was left with crumbs.
However, Geilich was able to ladder up while Leong was delivered a massive cooler in what was the biggest hand of the day. Leong committed his stack with a set of tens on the turn only to be up against Schmidt's straight. Leong was unable to improve to a full house or better on the river and was ousted in fourth place for $38,350.
Geilich was out soon after in third place for $51,140 to set-up the heads-up action with Schmidt holding a 6:1 chip advantage against Weis.
Weis had a little fight left in him and narrowed the gap a bit before the final hand took place. Once again, it was Schmidt's cowboys that were the downfall for Weis, who got it in this time with ace-five suited. Although Weis did miss out on a WSOP Circuit gold ring, he did collect a very handsome consolation prize of $68,196 to bring his total winnings at GGPoker up to $411,170.
Meanwhile, congrats to Schmidt for an impressive performance and his first WSOP Circuit gold ring!
