Apter Befuddles Zarco

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Brett Apter
Brett Apter

The board read {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Javier Zarco was deep in thought with a big decision on his hands as his river bet of 24,500 had been shoved on by Brett Apter.

Zarco thought for about 30 more seconds before folding and showing the {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for the second nut flush.

He prompted Apter to show and Apter did show one card, the {a-Hearts} which only made Zarco all the more curious as he continued to wonder as the next hand was dealt.

Wang Cracks Aces to Survive

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Michael Wang (from Day 1)
Michael Wang (from Day 1)

Michael Wang found himself in a world of trouble holding {9-}{9-} in a preflop all in up against the {a-}{a-} of David Russell.

The flop came {8-}{5-}{j-}, the turn came {7-} to open up a straight draw and the {10-Spades} on the river completed the straight to give Wang to huge double up and take a chunk away from Russell.

PokerNews is in town to live report the $1,700 Main Event and two high roller tournaments here at the World Series of Poker Circuit at Hard Rock Tampa, but those are just three of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

In Event #7: $1,125 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed, 212 entrants created a $212,000 prize pool that was paid out to the top 32 players including David Tuthill (6th - $8,746), Leif Force (9th - $4,207), Allen Kessler (11th - $3,457), James Calderaro (20th - $2,233), Robert Mizrachi (22nd - $2,034), and Justin Zaki (32nd - $1,835).

The title came down to two WSOP bracelet winners – David Prociak and WSOP $50,000 Poker Players Championship winner Phillip Hui. The former wound up the victor for $51,400 and his second gold ring.

“It means a lot. Everytime you win, it’s like you revalue yourself and you just feel better, just built up,” Prociak said after his win. “I play mostly PLO, mostly cash games PLO and online PLO. This is my favorite game, I do best in it.”

He continued: “Everything was pretty smooth. Early on, I turned a huge hand. I had the nuts with a redraw in a three-way all in and I hit the redraw and had like a million in chips. Once I had the chip lead, it was a little up and down but mostly just adding to the chip lead.”
