The Course of Play So Far

So far we have very contrasting styles in today's event. Alexander Kostritsyn is playing in a lot of pots and using aggression and some good cards to build a lot of chips. Erik Seidel is using selective aggression to pick up pots from weaker opponents and double up in key spots to stay alive.

Eric Brooks is mostly staying out of the way of the big guns and playing very selectively. Minh Ly seems to be gunning a lot for Kostritsyn, as they have tangled in several pots already, but Kostritsyn seems willing to tangle. Fu Wong's play thus far has been very similar to Seidel with the exception of playing a few more pots.

Stay tuned an see how things progress.

Jim Paluszek Crippled

Jim Paluszek and Fu Wong bet every street in a hand to the river. With the board of {K-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {4-Hearts} , Wong bet into Paluszek's board of {5-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} . Paluszek made the call and Wong showed ({A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}) for the nut flush.

Paluszek is down to 20,000 after the hand.

Seidel Doubles Once More

Erik Seidel has survived again, this time doubling through chip leader Alexander Kostritsyn.

Kostritsyn played his hand aggressively, but Seidel was having none of it, re-raising on 3rd street and getting it all in by 6th street.

Seidel: ({6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}) {6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades} ({Q-Hearts})
Kostritsyn: ({8-Hearts}{7-Spades}) {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{2-Hearts} (X)

Kostritsyn took a shot at knocking out Seidel, and had some outs on the river, but couldn't hit as Seidel survives yet another all in confrontation to move to close to 300,000 chips.

Kostritsyn Gets a Lesson from Ly

A typical school of thinking in poker is, "Aggressive poker is winning poker." Another saying that can apply in limit games is "speed kills." Alexander Kostritsyn was in a hand with Minh Ly just now where he completed the bet showing the {8-Hearts}. Ly reraised with the {8-Diamonds}.

On fourth, Kostritsyn caught the {8-Clubs} for a pair on board and made a double bet. Minh Ly, who caught a {Q-Diamonds}, beat him into the pot for the call. Fifth street came the {5-Hearts} for Kostritsyn and the {A-Hearts} for Ly. Kostritsyn bet and Ly called.

On sixth street Ly caught the {A-Spades} and immediately bet out with his hand. Kostritsyn, who caught the {3-Clubs}, looked back at his hand, shook his head slightly and mucked his hand. Ly had a sly grin on his face as he takes down the pot.

Kostritsyn's Super Stack

Kostritsyn's Super Stack
Kostritsyn's Super Stack
Alexander Kostritsyn now holds around half of the chips in play after recent pots against David Oppenheim, Fu Wong and Eric Brooks.

He has been relentlessly aggressive all day and is catching the cards to match it - a lethal combination.

Kostritsyn stack is ballooning out onto the table and is over the 1.5million chip mark, with Minh Ly the next biggest stack on around 400,000.

Another Double Up For Seidel

Erik Seidel completed with the {5-Clubs} and Fu Wong raised with the {K-Hearts}. Seidel then re-raised and Wong made the call.

On 4th street Wong bet out after hitting the {8-Diamonds} and Seidel made the call with the {Q-Hearts}.

On 5th street Wong bet the {A-Diamonds} and Seidel tossed his last 10,000 into the middle on the {4-Spades}. The cards were revealed and the boards ran out as follows:

Seidel: ({10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}) {5-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-?} ({3-Spades})
Wong: ({4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}) {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} (X)

Wong needed help on the river and squeezed his card but couldn't pair up as Seidel's pair of tens held. Seidel is now up to about 150,000 and back in contention, in another remarkable comeback for Seidel in this tournament.
