Young versus Schwartz

Jason Young and Mike Schwartz have tangled in a couple of pots recently.

(1) Schwartz makes it 240,000 from the small blind, Young calls from the big. Both players check down the {5-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades} board, Young winning with {Q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Schwartz showed a {K-Spades}.

(2) Young makes it 200,000 from the button and Schwartz calls on his big blind. Both check the {Q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, Schwartz bets 400,000 on the {J-Clubs} turn and Young folds. Young showed {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and I believe mumbled, "I'm not going to chase."

Strzemp Claws Back

The very next hand, Strzemp clawed back a few of those chips. All three players limped and checked all the way through a {10-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades} flop and to a {J-Diamonds} turn, at which point it checked around to Strzemp, who bet 150,000. Schwartz folded, but Young called. He also called Strzemp's 325,000 bet on the {5-Hearts} river, and then disappointedly mucked when Strzemp turned over {9-Spades} {8-Diamonds} for the straight. Strzemp now back up to over three million.

Young Guns for Gold

Jason Young
Jason Young
John Strzemp has taken a big hit courtesy of an elated Jason Young who erupted from his seat after winning the pot.

Young kicked off the action with a 170,000 raise from the button. Strzemp made it 500,000 and Schwartz folded, commenting "easy fold" in the process.

It wasn't an "easy fold" for Young though, in fact it wasn't a fold at all, the call for the extra 330,000 a seemingly torturous one as he dipped into the think tank, counted out his chips and slid them across the felt.

On the {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop, Strzemp bet what appeared to be a cool 1,000,000, which was met by a swift all-in from Young. A momentary dwell later and the pot was Young's,

Current Standings

Strzemp limp and check their way to a {4-Hearts} {5-Spades} {J-Clubs} flop from the blinds. Strzemp bets out 150,000, which Schwartz calls, and then bets another 400,000 on the {9-Hearts} turn. Schwartz folds.

Current chip counts:

Strzemp: 4.2 million
Schwartz: 3.1 million
Young: 2.7 million

Counterfeited by a Duck

Previous short stack John Strzemp III is now your current chip leader with 4,200,000.

One hand that aided his climb was against Jason Young. On a flop of {2-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, Young check-called a bet of 150,000. Check, check on the {4-Hearts} turn only for Young to check-call again, this time a bet of 250,000 on the {2-Spades} river.

Young = {6-Spades}{4-Spades}
Strzemp = {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Young was not a happy chappy.

Yanwning Young Pushes

Schwartz button-raises to 300,000, and Young calls in the small blind.

They see a {5-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} flop, and Young checks, yawning. Schwartz bets 300,000. Young pushes all his chips into the middle, still yawning - a total of 1.76 million. Schwartz mulls it over, but folds.

At Sixes and Fives

Nobody in particular has stood out as the most aggressive preflop raiser, but in recent hands, John Strzemp has been taking it to his two opponents.

Meanwhile, he also won a small pot by being the caller, Jason Young raising it to 265,000 from the small blind and Strzemp matching the bet in the big.

The {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} board was checked all the way down where Strzemp took the pot with {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} versus Young's {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}.

"You lost the minimum," commented Mike Schwartz.
