River Drowns Lake

Dario Minieri
Dario Minieri
Poker is full of surprises, but none more painful than the outdraw, Devin Lake being the latest to feel its wrath, and boy, what a wrath it was.

With Dario Minieri raising it up to 3,200 preflop, Devin Lake made it a total of 10,000 to play. Folded back round to Minieri, and the Italian menace glanced at his stack, then at his opponent, before reaching back for a tall column of yellow chips worth 22,000.

Devin Lake took no time in pushing in his remaining stack, a move which provoked a sigh and a subsequent declaration of "well, I guess I'm committed now" from Minieri.

On their backs, and Lake was looking in great shape with {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} versus Minieri's {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, and even more so on the clinical {4-Spades}{K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} flop.

Sadly for Lake, it wasn't quite clinical enough, running clubs on the {J-Clubs} turn and {3-Clubs} river dealing out the very lowest of blows and giving the PokerStars pro the flush, and thus the pot.

Gasps ensued as flabbers were well and truly gasted, even Minieri shocked as he raced over to fellow countryman Pescatori to retell his tale of fortune.

Lake, meanwhile, took his beat like a man, simply tapping the table and heading towards the cashier.

Mineiri now looks to have surpassed that magic 100,000 mark.
