Terrence Chan Eliminated in 3rd Place ($85,185)

Terrence Chan - 3rd place
Terrence Chan - 3rd place

Terrence Chan, reduced from chip leader to short stack, raised from the button and Ahmad Abghari called in the big blind. They saw an {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop and the action went like so:

Abghari: check
Chan: bet
Abghari: raise
Chan: reraise
Abghari: "What have you got left?"
Chan: "155k"
Abghari: call

So they saw the {7-Diamonds} turn and Abghari bet out. Chan raised all in, Abghari made the call, and they flipped their cards.

Chan: {q-Spades}{6-Spades} for a flush and inside straight draw
Abghari: {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for two pair

River: {k-Diamonds}

Chan shook hands with both his remaining opponents and headed over to the commiserating arms of his railers, who for the record included Gavin Griffin.

Ladies, gentlemen - we are heads up.

Ace on the River

Matthew Matros is running over this table now, and he almost crippled Ahmad Abghari to leave himself heads-up for the bracelet. It was Matros who lit the first spark, raising it up preflop, being raised by Abghari, and making the call. The dealer popped a {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} onto the felt, and Abghari continued as the agressor, betting the flop, the {K-Spades} turn and the {A-Clubs} river - at which point he had just 35,000 behind - before taking the pot down with {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}. A frustrated Matros revealed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and was left to rue the ghost of Barry Greenstein and his popular publication.

Ace High Good for Chan

Terrence Chan raised from the button and Matt Matros reraised out of the small blind; Chan called and they headed flopwards.

Flop: {6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Hearts}

Matros bet out and Chan smooth called. Turn time.

Turn: {6-Diamonds}

Again, Matros bet out and Chan called. It's river o'clock...

River: {q-Clubs}

This time there was some considerable tankage from both parties, but the meat of the action was another bet from Matros and another call from Chan.

Matros turned over {k-}{8-} for king high - but Chan tabled {a-}{9-} for ace high, and he picked up a much-needed pot.

"How did he not raise?"

Matthew Matros and Terrence Chan reached a {9-Spades}{10-Spades}{J-Spades} flop where Chan bet, Matros raised, and Chan called.

On the {6-Hearts} turn, Chan check called, then again on the {Q-Spades} river, only for Mattros to proudly announce "straight flush", tabling {8-Spades}{4-Spades} in the process.

Chan showed the {A-Spades}, triggering Matros to jump back from his chair as if Chan was a spitting Cobra and exclaim, "He just called, how did he not raise?! Jesus."

Despite this, Chan has been sliding downhill quicker than a lard-smothered eel and has dipped right back down to 375,000. He is now the short stack at the table.

It's Oh So Quiet

Compared to the durrrr final table, and since the departure of Jameson Painter, the limit final has been a rather laid-back affair with little in the way of railers. Terrence Chan boasts a smattering of supporters, but even they're as quiet as mice in a monastery, choosing to show their support through signs and placards rather than whooping and hollering. During the last orbit, they took it in turns to hold aloft a variety of messages, one that amusingly read: "Terrence. I'm pregnant." Unfortunately, it was a dude.
