Nguyen Losing It

Razz

The Prince of Poker is on death watch now that he's lost any breathing room he'd bought himself in the last hour.

Scotty Nguyen: (X-X) / {4-}{6-}{10-}{q-} / (X)
Michael Chow: (X-X) / {3-}{6-}{4-}{5-} / (X)

Chow bet every street, and Nguyen called down through sixth. He peeked at his final down card and had to fold to one last bet. Having missed his expensive draw, Nguyen left himself with 45,000, less than two big bets.

Johnson Scoops Brunson

Marco Johnson
Marco Johnson

Omaha-8

Marco Johnson raised from the cutoff and Todd Brunson flat-called in position on the button.

Johnson fired three streets of value on the board of {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{8-Hearts} with Brunson calling him down.

Johnson showed {j-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{2-Spades} for a full house and nut low to scoop as Brunson sighed and mucked.

Brunson is down to around 115,000 with Johnson now into the chip lead with 770,000.

Al Barbieri Eliminated in 22nd Place ($21,997)

Stud-8

Scotty Nguyen, Al Barbieri, and Brandon Adams all walked into a bar. We mean Scotty, Al, and Brandon were all involved in big stud-8 hand, and Nguyen was out of money on fourth. Barbieri bet on fifth, and Adams raised. Sugar Bear called all in, and Adams had a chance to score a double knockout. He had to settle for just one, though, as Nguyen made a ten-high flush to take the high. Adams' six-low was good for the other half of the pot. Barbieri held {a-Clubs}{8-Spades}{k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, which couldn't beat anything. He was dispatched in 22nd place.

Nguyen and Adams split Barbieri's chips, moving Scotty up to 85k and Adams to 220k.

All Rolled Up

As we arrived to the table, Steve Billirakis led the betting on sixth street with Carlos Mortensen making the call before Brandon Adam announced a raise. Billirakis called all in for his last chips, and Mortensen made the call also.

On the river, Mortensen checked and Adams fired a bet into the side pot, but Mortensen released.

Billirakis: ({9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}) / {9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{J-Clubs} / ({5-Spades})
Mortensen: (X-X) / {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} / (X)
Adams: ({6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}) / {6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} / ({4-Diamonds})

Billirakis was rolled up and filled up as he showed a full house to take the main pot. Adams also had a full house but it was only good for the side pot.

Billirakis triples up to 245,000, with Adams at 150,000 and Mortensen at 325,000

Fischman Swimming Upstream

Stud-8

Scott Fischman surged ahead, scooping a huge stud pot.

Brian Townsend: (X-X) / {8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} / (X)
John Hennigan: (X-X) / {q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Richard Ashby: (X-X) / {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}
Scott Fischman: (X-X) / {2-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades} / (X)

We caught up with the action when Richard Ashby led with a bet on fourth. The other three called, and when Townsend bet out on fifth, Hennigan and Ashby gave up. Townsend check-called sixth and seventh and saw he'd been calling down with the worst of it when Fischman turned over {8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for two pair and an eight-low. He moved up to 610k while Townsend fell to 550k.

Shorties Survive

Stud-8

The short stacks are fighting back early here on day three. Scotty Nguyen and Al Barbieri were both all in against Carlos Mortensen, but Nguyen made a flush to take the high while Barbieri showed a low to collect half.

Nguyen is at 65,000 with Barbieri a little more comfortable with 100,000.
