David Callaghan Eliminated In 8th Place ($53,210)

David Callaghan
David Callaghan

David Callaghan raised it up to 70,000 preflop from the cutoff and Jason Mercier re-raised to 120,000. Callaghan put the rest of his chips in (he only 150,000 at start of hand) with Mercier calling.

Mercier: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Callaghan: {j-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Mercier's queens were good for the knockout and to move him up to 1,600,000

With Callghan's elimination we are now down to our final seven players who will move over to the ESPN main stage.

Kind Flop for Winzeler

A short-stacked Hans Winzeler limped on the button only to have Michael "timex" McDonald make it 80,000 to go from the small blind. The big blind gave it up, Winzeler made the call, and the flop fell {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. McDonald was first, asked for a count, and then bet pot. Winzeler snap-called and it was apparent he had a five.

McDonald: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Winzeler: {5-Spades}{J-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

McDonald was clearly unhappy with his position, one that didn't improve as the {7-Clubs} hit the turn, followed by the {4-Clubs} on the river. Winzeler doubled on the hand while McDonald was left 260,000.

Callaghan Sliced

Gregory Brooks folded and David Callaghan raised to 50,000 from the button before Jason Mercier folded from the small blind to David Chiu, who raised the pot, making it 160,000 to go.

Callaghan thought about it for almost a minute, then called before the dealer spread the flop of {5-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{7-Spades}.

"How much do you have?" Chiu asked, but he didn't wait for an answer - Chiu insta-shoved. Callaghan didn't look too comfortable with that proposition and instead elected to fold.

Action Slowing Down

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

With two tables of four players each, the action has slowed down here a bit. Lot's of raise folding, lots of small pots, and very few flops. No one wants to be the last out before we hit our unofficial final table of seven.

Ressler Reduced

The action folded to Joseph Ressler who raised to 55,000 from the small blind before the flop; Steven Merrifield then made it another 110,000 to go from the big blind and Ressler called before checking his option on the flop of {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

Merrifield quickly fired out a stack of green T25,000 chips, more than enough to put Ressler all in. Ressler sighed and then let his hand go.

Winzeler Headed in the Wrong Direction

Steven Merrifield raised to 42,000 on the button and Hans Winzeler called from the small blind. From there, both players checked the {4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop, leading to the {2-Spades} on the river. Winzeler chose to led out with a 61,000 bet and put the pressure on Merrifield. The latter thought for awhile before sliding in a big stack of green T25,000 chips, enough to cover his opponent.

Winzeler didn't take long to flick his cards in the muck.

Merrifield Surrenders to McDonald

The action folded around to Michael "timex" McDonald who raised to 46,000 from the button before the flop; Steven Merrifield called, so off they went heads-up to the flop, which read {J-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

Merrifield opened for 67,000, but quickly folded after McDonald bet the pot. Merrifield is now down to less than 1.8 million, while McDonald is now back up to more than 600,000 in chips.
