Schwartz Unofficial Leader After Day 1
After eight levels of play in Event #5, a little over 100 runners remain, and Ylon Schwartz is your unofficial chip leader with 46,000 chips.
After four hours of late registration, the official number of entrants for this $1,500 Seven Card Stud event was 357 runners C 51 short of last years number. The prizepool totaled at $481,950, and the winner will receive $122,909 and a shiny gold WSOP bracelet. Alongside Schwartz, some of the end of the day leaders include Shaun Deeb (33,300), Andy Bloch (31,500), Chad Brown (25,000), Tom durrrr Dwan (23,000) and Eli Elezra (21,000).
Schwartz stumbled out of the gate only to make a strong comeback. He scooped a massive, multi-way pot against Eli Elezra and a third opponent to vault himself to the top of the leader board towards the end of the night. Dwan also started off slow, falling to 3,200 during Level 5, but scooped a few pots and emerged as one of our chip leaders. He then lost a big pot to Bloch though, wherein Bloch made a winning flush on seventh street.
Some of the notables who were unable to survive day one include Freddie Ellis, Daniel Negreanu, Steve Billirakis, Sorel Mizzi, Miami John Cernuto and Bryan The Icon Micon.
Join us tomorrow at 3 p.m. PST for the restart of this event. We will play ten more levels, stopping only if a final table is reached. Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for all of exclusive live-reporting updates for this and every event at the 2011 World Series of Poker. Good night!
