Hellmuth Wins, Oppenheim Grins

Level 11

Pot-Limit Omaha

Phil Hellmuth raised from under the gun to 10,500 and got two callers in David Oppenheim (middle position) and John Hennigan (big blind). The flop came {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts}. Hennigan and Hellmuth both checked, and Oppenheim bet 19,000. Only Hellmuth called.

The turns was the {A-Clubs}, and both checked. The river brought the {5-Diamonds} and a bet of 36,400 from Hellmuth. Oppenheim raised to 90,000, and Hellmuth -- who didn't catch that there'd been a raise -- said "Aces." Then, "Oh, you raised? Call."

Hellmuth tabled {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs} for aces full of eights -- the near-nuts -- and Oppenheim laughed as he showed his {A-Spades}{8-Spades}{x-}{x-} for a lesser boat.

"Phil Hellmuth, everybody," said Oppenheim with a wide grin. "I hope this table never breaks," said leader Ben Lamb afterwards. "Be careful what you wish for" was Hellmuth's rejoinder.

Hellmuth is now at about 400,000, while Oppenheim has about 415,000.
