The Big One For Giannetti! Part II!

A little consolation for Hilton Laborda
A little consolation for Hilton Laborda

This 29th level of the Main Event has been one Hilton Laborda would much prefer to forget. It'll be tough, though. Earlier on, he shipped a big double up over to Matt Giannetti when his second-nut flush was no good against a rivered full house. Just now, the two men played another cooler of a pot, and this one cost Laborda the rest. And It was another pretty sick spot. Check it out.

It began with Laborda opening to 220,000 from middle position this time, and Giannetti called out of the big blind. The two of them check-checked through the {8-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {7-Spades} flop, and Giannetti checked again on the {2-Clubs} turn. Laborda took his cue to bet 280,000 at the pot, only to see Giannetti check-raise to 675,000 total. The call came pretty quickly from the Brazilian, and the {7-Clubs} filled out the board on the river. Giannetti took a page out of Laborda's book and made a big bet all in, putting his opponent to the decision for his last 1.575 million chips. You can't fault him for being a little snakebitten from the last time, and Laborda took a minute or so to writhe in agony before making the call for his tournament life. With a defeated look already on his face, he'd soon see that he'd been coolered off once again.

Showdown
Laborda: {A-Clubs} {3-Clubs}
Giannetti: {2-Spades} {2-Diamonds}

Once again, Giannetti's full house beats Laborda's flush, and this one has sent the last remaining Brazilian to the exit. On his way out, he stopped by his loyal rail for a few moments of consolation. He'll receive a pay bump up near a quarter-million dollars for his work here in the Main Event, though, and that has to be of some consolation, at least.

This level is really clicking for Giannetti, and he's taken the overall chip lead with 35 players left! Mark him down for more than 16 million now.
