Deeb Spikes a Straight; Snaps Off Bluff

Freddy Deeb

Action began on Scott Montgomery, who opened to 11,000 from under-the-gun. Gregory Merson called from the button and Freddy Deeb came along to on the small. The big blind folded and it was three-way heading to the flop, which brought {5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades}. Deeb and Montgomery checked to Merson, who bet 14,500. Deeb called but Montgomery got out of the way.

The turn brought a {10-Hearts} and Deeb again checked, prompting a 22,500 bet from Merson. Deeb called.

The river? {6-Clubs} and Deeb checked a final time. Not backing down, Merson fired a hefty 61,000 bet into the middle. Deeb mulled it over a bit and slid in a call. Merson wasted no time tabling {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for king-high. Deeb flipped over {7-Spades}{8-Hearts} for a rivered straight and scooped the pot.

"You're unlucky the six came," Deeb said with a smile.

Deeb is now up to 310,000 while Merson is sitting at 160,000.
