Hoyt Corkins Eliminated in 4th Place ($199,023)

Hoyt Corkins
Hoyt Corkins

Action folded to Hoyt Corkins in the small blind and he moved all in for 1.4 million. Bob Phelps took his time squeezing out his cards in the big blind before making the call and putting the two-time bracelet winner at risk.

Showdown
Corkins: {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Phelps: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Corkins was in rough shape and needed some help, but the {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop was anything but; in fact, it left Horkins in need of either runner-runner hearts to win the pot or runner straight cards to chop.

The {Q-Clubs} turn put an end to Corkins' shot at a third bracelet, and he shook hands with the table as the dealer put out the meaningless {7-Hearts} on the river. Corkins, who earned $199,023 for his fourth-place finish, exited the stage to a nice round of applause.

Phillips Gets Some Back

Bob Phelps limped in the small blind and Dennis Phillips checked his option from the big. The {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop saw Phelps lead out for 300,000, Phillips call, and then both players checked down the {6-Spades} turn and {3-Diamonds} river.

Phelps rolled over {J-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, but it was no good against the {Q-Spades}{9-Diamonds} of Phillips.

Another for Phelps

Level 32 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

Action folded to Bob Phelps on the button and he raised to 320,000. Dennis Phillips defended from the small blind and it was heads-up to the {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop. Phillips proceeded to check-call a bet of 300,000 before checking the turn dark.

Phelps checked the {7-Clubs} back, and once again Phillips checked in the dark before seeing the next card, which was the {3-Spades}. Phelps checked right behind and rolled over {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, which was good enough to win the pot.

First Blood to Phelps

Level 32 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

On the fourth hand of the day, action folded to Bob Phelps in the small blind and he called. Dennis Phillips checked his option in the big blind and it was heads-up to the {10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop, which went check-check. When the dealer burned and turned the {K-Diamonds}, Phelps took the initiative and led out for 300,000. Phillips gave it a quick thought and opted to fold.
