Day 2 Ends with Brown in the Lead
Day 2 of Event 39: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha began with 88 players looking to make the money, and then advance to Day 3. After ten hours of grueling poker, only thirteen players remain, and the chip leader is Andrew Brown with 1,774,000 chips. Brown’s stack began to surge before the dinner break, and after the bubble burst, he rocketed to the top of the counts. During the last few levels, he busted Keith Lehr, Konstantin Bucherl, Alexander Kravchenko, and David Callaghan.
Sammy Farha and Benjamin Sage are the only other players with more than a million chips. Here’s how the entire field looks:
Name | Chips |
---|---|
Andrew Brown | 1,774,000 |
Sammy Farha | 1,129,000 |
Benjamin Sage | 1,013,000 |
Jan-Peter Jachtmann | 895,000 |
Steven Silverman | 668,000 |
Joe Kushner | 571,000 |
Andy Seth | 569,000 |
Adam Kornuth | 568,000 |
Nikolai Yakovenko | 528,000 |
Jason Mercier | 408,000 |
Ville Wahlbeck | 247,000 |
Micah Smith | 215,000 |
John Kabbaj | 210,000 |
There were plenty of notables who returned for Day 2 only to miss the money. The list includes George Lind III, John Racener, Ben Grundy, Noah Schwartz, Joe Cada, Brett Richey, Chris DeMaci, and our eventual bubble boy; Huck Seed. Seed was very short with 37 players remaining, and on the fourteenth hand of hand-for-hand play, he was all in with . Aussie Matthew Kirk had him at risk with , and the board ran out , eliminating Seed one spot shy of $16,801.
During the last level of play, when we redrew to two tables, Jason Mercier was at the bottom of the counts. And, when he got his money in the middle, he was well behind Josh Tieman and Farha. Mercier received running hearts however, tripling him to over twenty big-blinds. An orbit or two later, he was all in again against Seth holding just top pair. Mercier was able to fade all of Seth’s outs, and doubled to nearly 40 big blinds. He finished the day with 408,000, and is looking to capture his third career WSOP bracelet – all of which have come in Pot-Limit Omaha.
Event 39 will resume tomorrow at 1 p.m. local time. Brown, Wahlbeck, and Kabbaj will be looking for their second career WSOP bracelet, Mercier his third, and Farha his fourth. We look forward to an exciting finish, and we hope you join us for all of your exclusive up-to-the-minute updates!
