Gazes Gone

Billy Gazes got off to a good start in the first half hour or so, but it was all downhill from there for him, and he has just been eliminated.

We caught up with the action as the flop of {7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} was being put out. There were three players in the hand, and the other two checked to Gazes, who fired out 6,800. Sergey Tikhonov was the only caller, and the turn brought the {10-Spades}.

Tikhonov checked to Gazes, and Gazes went into the tank for a long time. Usually when a player thinks for this long, it is because they are deciding what to do after their opponent has bet. After a few minutes of thought, Gazes went all in for just under 13,000, and Tikhonov snap called.

Tikhonov: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Gazes: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Gazes had turned top pair, but he was drawing dead to the flopped set of Tikhonov. The meaningless river was the {q-Spades}, and Gazes headed to the rail. It's been a decent summer for Tikhonov, who has recorded two five figure cashes. First he placed 17th in the $5,000 Mixed Max Event, and then he took 34th in Event 54: $1,000 No Limit Holdem. He's off to a great start today, as he's sitting on 67,000.
