Time to Go... Oh Wait

By the time we arrived at the scene of another all in and call, Michael Swimelar was getting ready to leave the tournament. He held {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} against Vincent Wille's {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} and the dealer had spread out a {q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} flop. He was already out of his chair here and when the dealer flipped over a {4-Diamonds} on the turn, he stood behind his chair and pushed it in.

River: {j-Clubs}

Sit back down, Swimelar, you aren't going anywhere. Wille now has under 150,000.

A Fair River For Alcobar

Benjamin Alcober was the first player in this tournament over one million chips, reaching that accomplishment yesterday. However, it's been a tough day for him, as he was just down to 172,000. However, he has just doubled through Ryan Fair to get back over 350,000.

Alcober was at risk preflop holding {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} and he was facing off against the {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} of Fair. The flop came all low, {7-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts}, and Fair stayed out in front. The {4-Hearts} came on the turn, and Fair's table mate pointed out "you picked up an open ended straight draw." Fair just shrugged his shouldars, and the dealer peeled off the {j-Clubs} on the river to give the pot to Alcober.

"I knew when you said that I had the straight draw that I was going to lose" said Fair after the hand. He shipped the chips over to Alcober, who now sits on 355,000. Meanwhile, Fair drops down to 530,000 after that hand.

Shaun Deeb Out; Buchman on the Rise

Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb

Eric Buchman is looking to match or improve on his fourth-place showing at the 2009 WSOP Main Event. He's made big moves this level, including knocking out Shaun Deeb along the way.

First Buchman scored a big double-up in a hand versus Richard Pyne. Then he eliminated a short-stacked Deeb after the latter shoved with {A-}{5-} and Buchman called with {K-}{J-}, and a king on the river ended Deeb's run while adding more to Buchman's stack.

Volpe Cracks Three Million

Paul Volpe (earlier) with about half of what he has now
Paul Volpe (earlier) with about half of what he has now

Paul Volpe was recently moved to the gold/blue section, meaning we don't have the easiest access. However, we did see the very end of a hand that saw Volpe bust Sean Rice.

Volpe filled us in on the details. He opened from middle position and Sean Rice three-bet to 52,000 on the button. Action folded back to Volpe who four-bet to 125,000. A call from Rice landed a {K-Clubs}{4-}{2-Clubs} flop. Both checked through to the {10-Clubs} turn where Volpe bet 150,000. A call from Rice delivered a {K-} on the river.

Volpe shoved, putting Rice to a decision for roughly 400,000. After a little bit of time in the tank, Rice called with {A-}{K-} for trip kings. Volpe, though, tabled {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for a flush to win the sizable pot and crack the 3,000,000 chip mark.

Daniel Runs Into Peterson's Set

We happened upon the table with about 400,000 in the pot and a board reading {4-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. It appeared Ryan Daniel had checked, and Wayne Peterson had moved all in for 323,000.

Daniel was contemplating the call, asking his opponent a lot of questions like, "Do you have ace-queen?" and "A set?" Peterson, who was getting a massage, buried his head in his massage pad and refused to answer.

Daniel thought for a long time, counting out chips and asking for an exact count, and then said, "I call." Peterson then looked up, rolled over {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, and doubled on the hand.

Daniel was clearly disappointed as he was left with just 12,000, all of which disappeared in the very next hand.

Ho Eliminated

Maria Ho - Eliminated
Maria Ho - Eliminated

Benjamin Hamnett raised to 21,000 from late position and it folded to Maria Ho in the small blind. Ho announced that she was all in for roughly 115,000. The big blind got out of the way and when action fell back on Hamnett he called.

Hamnett: {A-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Ho: {A-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Ho was behind and in need of help. She did not find it on the {2-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades} flop. Fourth street left her still searching for help as the {6-Diamonds} was of no assistance. The {6-Clubs} completed the board and Ho's 2012 World Series of Poker had officially come to an end. As the poker beauty left the Amazon room she stopped and took one look back at the table before turning and heading for the door.

Hamnett is now sitting on a stack of about 540,000 after having his ace-king hold.

Be sure to check out our interview with Ho from earlier in the day:

Aces, Aces, Everywhere for Kelly

When we arrived over at JP Kelly's table, Robert Layne was busy three-betting all in for around 200,000 after the cutoff opened it up to 24,000. JP Kelly was in the big blind and shoved over the top, having both his opponents in the hand covered. The player who opened let go of their hand and Kelly and Layne turned over their showings.

Kelly: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Layne: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}

Kelly was in good shape to add to his growing stack and that's exactly what he did, with the {3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}{10-Clubs} board eliminating Layne and sending the pot to Kelly.

During this hand we noticed that the table was sniggering about something. Apparently Kelly had eliminated Darren Grant just a few hands earlier, holding none other than {a-}{a-}. When you run good, you run good.

Stjernvang Sets Trap, Never Springs

Helge Stjernvang opened to 22,000 from the hijack seat, Sorel Mizzi three-bet to 52,000 on the button, and Stjernvang called.

The flop fell {4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, and Stjernvang checked. Mizzi fired 55,000, and Stjernvang called.

The turn was the {j-Spades}, both players checked, and the river was the {6-Clubs}. Both players checked again. Stjernvang tabled {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a set of fours, and Mizzi mucked his hand.
