Going Once... Going Twice... Sold! It's $25K Fantasy Draft Time
This year, PokerNews will be on hand to provide live coverage of the $25K Fantasy Poker draft. A player and audience favorite, this event pits top poker players and industry personalities against one another in a fantasy poker format, all for the massive buy-in of $25,000 per team.
This will be the fourth year for the event, which began in 2011 with a bang as 15 teams were entered. The team headed by Jason Somerville and Jason Mercier emerged victorious by a landslide (nearly 400 points) to earn the top prize of $225,000 that year. In 2012, Mercier's team won again, but this time the gap was a little closer. Still, Mercier topped the field of 11 teams to earn the $178,750 first-place prize. Some would say Mercier was building a fantasy dynasty by taking the first two titles.
In 2013, Matthew Waxman's team took the title and the $210,000 top prize. Fourteen teams entered and Waxman's squad won by nearly 300 points.
This year, it is rumored that the field size will be right around the same size, and an estimated four spots will be paid.
The rules are very simple and will be the same as last year — each team gets 200 fantasy dollars to bid on players in an auction draft format. Each roster will consist of eight players, and there are varying scoring multipliers that you can find on the rules page.
The draft begins at 7 p.m. Las Vegas time, and you can stay tuned right here for live coverage from the event to include bid amounts, team rosters, and more.
