2013 Main Event winner Ryan “The Beast” Riess is living up to his name and reputation here by grabbing quite a few chips early on. In a hand we just witnessed, however, he showed that it can be just as important to back off in some spots.
Riess was in the big blind and after a raise and a call from middle position players, he put in the calling chips. The flop came down and Riess led out for 250.
The original raiser folded but the remaining player in Seat 10 didn’t take much time to move all in. Riess asked for a count and found it was 2,175. He then asked the dealer to lean back so he could study his opponent. With the dealer out of the way, Riess gave him a long stare and after some thought, he flipped over the and mucked his hand.
