Event 58: $1,500 Mixed-Max No-Limit Hold'em Set to Start

Can Vanessa Selbst win another?
Can Vanessa Selbst win another?

In 2013 at the WSOP there was only one Mixed-Max NLHE tournament — a $3,000 buy-in event that would be won by Brandon Wong. The popularity of the tournament caused the WSOP staff to put two on the schedule in 2014.

The first of those, a $25,000 version, was taken down earlier this summer by none other than Vanessa Selbst. She would win $871,148 after besting Jason Mo heads up to capture her third WSOP bracelet. In under an hour, the second of the Mixed-Max tournaments, a $1,500 version, will get underway and with all of the bigger events winding down we expect a great turnout.

In the 2013 Mixed-Max tournament, there were plenty of notables who would make deep runs before falling short to Wong. They included Scott Abrams, Mike Wattel, Greg Raymer, Scotty Nguyen, Rep Porter, Gavin Smith, Marcel Luske, Freddie Deeb, and Dan O'Brien. In the tournament that Selbst won, players like JC Tran, Matt Giannetti, Darren Elias, Nick Schulman, Calvin Anderson, and Noah Schwartz would all cash. We expect many of those names and more to be taking part in today's action.

This is a tournament with a unique format. They’ll play nine-handed today, then six-handed tomorrow, then four-handed on Wednesday until down to four players, after which the event becomes a heads-up tourney. PokerNews will be here for all the different formats until there is a winner. Tune in to find out who the next Mixed-Max Champion is!
