Final Table Interview: Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney came into the World Series of Poker this summer after losing quite a bit of weight and living a more healthy lifestyle. He is focused and playing well which has resulted in his best career-WSOP finishes to date. With a fourth-place finish in Event #24: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six Handed, a fifth-place in Event #34: $1,500 Seven Card Stud plus another deep run, Kenney is looking to secure his first gold bracelet today in one of his favorite game formats.
We caught up with Kenney as the final five players went on their first break of the day.
PokerNews: What is about this tournament that appeals to you?
Bryn Kenney: It’s been a very fun tournament. I play eight-game online and ten-game tournaments are really fun. I made sure to play this one, I didn’t even play the Little One for One Drop because I have been looking forward to this one.
The only other time I played this tournament was in 2012, I had four-times the average stack with ten players left. I was involved in a pot with Vanessa [Selbst] and she had a 40% chance against me for all the chips. She went on to win and now I am trying to get my revenge.
You have had your best WSOP finishes this year, why is that?
I am in a better mindset this summer. Usually at the WSOP, I am staking people and giving people money. That means I am worrying about other people and not necessarily myself. I decided to cut that out. I am much healthier this year and eating better and my mind is in a better place.
There has been some talk about your weight loss and your overall healthy lifestyle. How has that made a difference for you at the table?
I am feeling better when I wake up in the morning and throughout the entire day. That means I am probably playing better also. My mind is strong, so I would definitely say being in better shape is helping.
How do you like your chances today?
Well, I have almost half the chips in play and we are down to five players. I have more experience than everyone at the table by far. I love my chances and hopefully I can take it down.
