Small Pot for Nguyen

Level 28 : 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

Shaun Deeb raised to 320,000 in the cutoff and James Calderaro called on the button, as did Ben Yu in the big blind. The flop fell {Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and the action checked to Calderaro, who bet 500,000. That ended up winning the pot without showdown.

Deeb raised to 320,000 first to act the very next hand and Scotty Nguyen called in the big blind to see a flop of {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. Nguyen checked and Deeb checked back to head to a turn of {9-Clubs}. Again both checked and did so again on the {8-Clubs} river.

Nguyen was first to show and turned over the {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, which ended up winning the pot.

Big Showww: James Calderaro Looks for Back-to-Back $25K PLO Titles

Level 28 : 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

Making a final table in any WSOP event is a long-odds investment. A $25,000 event with plenty of top players makes it even tougher. Getting that deep requires long days, deep focus, plenty of skill, and an occasional lucky break.

James Calderaro (aka The Big Showww Caldo) has not only done that in the $25,000 Pot Limit Omaha tournament, but has a chance to win the title two years in a row.

We spoke to Calderaro right before play got underway today. Read the article on the PokerNews homepage.

Jason Koon Eliminated in 5th Place ($295,606)

Level 28 : 80,000/160,000, 0 ante
Jason Koon - 5th Place
Jason Koon - 5th Place

On Hand #31 of the final table, Shaun Deeb raised to 320,000 from the button and then called when Jason Koon three-bet to 1.04 million.

Koon then moved all in for his last 900,000 on the {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop and Deeb snap-called.

Deeb: {7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Koon: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Koon held an overpair but Deeb had flopped two pair to take the lead. The {J-Hearts} turn gave Koon a bunch of straight outs but the {A-Hearts} river was not one of them. Deeb's two pair held and Koon was eliminated in fifth place.

Deeb's Aggression Leaves Nguyen Short

Level 28 : 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

Scotty Nguyen raised to 460,000 on the button and Shaun Deeb three-bet for the size of the pot in the small blind, making it 1,540,000 to go. Nguyen called and the flop came {Q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Deeb bet the pot and Nguyen had just shy of that behind to be sent into the think tank. After careful consideration, Nguyen folded and was sent all the way down to 20 big blinds, while Deeb further increased his lead.

The Action Slows Down

Level 28 : 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

Jason Koon limped in from the small blind and Ben Yu checked his option in the big blind. The flop came {Q-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Koon checked, Yu checked back. Koon also checked the {10-Spades} on the turn and Yu's bet of 225,000 ended the hand right there.

James Calderaro raised first to act to 400,000 and was called by Shaun Deeb in the big blind. There was no betting action on the {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop or the {Q-Hearts} turn. The {3-Diamonds} turn brought a bet of 280,000 by Deeb and Calderaro folded.

Yu Takes It with a River Bet

Level 28 : 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

Ben Yu limped from the small blind and Scotty Nguyen checked his option from the big.

Yu check-called a bet of 225,000 on the {8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop before both players checked the {K-Clubs} turn.

When the {A-Clubs} completed the board on the river, Yu led out for 400,000 and Nguyen folded.

Deeb Takes From Calderaro

Level 28 : 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

Shaun Deeb raised to 360,000 from the button and was called by James Calderaro in the small blind, as well as Jason Koon in the big blind. On the {Q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop, Calderaro and Koon checked to Deeb, who bet 400,000. Calderaro called and Koon let go, sending two players to the {Q-Hearts} turn.

Calderaro took the betting lead and made it 900,000 to go. Deeb gave it some consideration and called. The {K-Spades} fell on the river and both players checked. Calderaro flashed a {K-}{9-}{8-}{7-} and Deeb had that beat with {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} for trips queens to rake in the big pot.

Shaun Deeb Takes the Lead

Level 28 : 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

On Hand #13 of the final table, Shaun Deeb opened for 320,000 and Ben Yu called out of the small blind. Scotty Nguyen came along from the big and three players went to the flop, which came down {4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{j-Spades}.

Two checks saw Deeb continue for 450,000 and only Yu called to see the {A-Diamonds} turn.

Yu checked for the second time and Deeb bet 1.25 million. That did the trick as Yu released. As a result of that hand, Deeb leapfrogged Yu atop the counts.
