The Short-Stack Ninja Doubles Up

Level 5 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Nick Petrangelo opened to 10,000 from under the gun and the action folded to Cary Katz who jammed all in for 96,500 from the small blind. Jason Mercier was in the big blind and was soon in the tank as well. He eyed up Petrangelo's stack that was roughly around 110,000 and then disgustedly threw his cards to the muck.

"Even though you're a short-stack ninja, I think this is just too strong to fold," Petrangelo said to Katz as he threw calling chips into the pot.

Petrangelo turned over {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} but Katz had the medicine for that hand with the {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. "Ughhh," Petrangelo let out a grunt as the dealer fanned the flop of {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{5-Diamonds} to give Katz full control of the hand. The turn was the {a-Spades} and the river brought the {a-Clubs} to give Katz a full double-up.

Mercier, meanwhile, had let the table know he folded ace-queen and gently banged the table when the river hit the felt as he would have won the hand. "Do you think the same cards would have come if I was in there?" Mercier asked the dealer.

Down to 12,000, Petrangelo busted shortly thereafter.
