Final Table Set for Event #17: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout
Day 2 of Event #17: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout is in the books. 100 competitors returned to the Amazon area today to continue to battle it out and try to top their tables once again. The remaining 100 players all had $5,279 locked up for making it to Day 2, but they all had their eyes on making it to the final table, in order to get one step closer to the bracelet and to the first place prize of $238,824.
At the end of the day, only 10 players reached their goal of the day.
Anatolii Zyrin took the narrow chip lead for today with 2,306,000. He outlasted two-time bracelet winner Athanasios Polychronopoulos to make it through. Kenna James (2,203,000) also locked up a seat at the final table. James was the first player to secure a seat for tomorrow after defeating Dustin Born.
Tommy Nguyen (2,213,000) and Cary Katz (2,266,000) are still in contention as well. Katz has over $4,000,000 in earnings at the WSOP and will be looking to claim his first bracelet. Nguyen is the only player at the table with a title on his WSOP resume. He took down the $1,500 Monster Stack last year to win his first bracelet and will be looking to grab his second one tomorrow.
Brett Apter will be returning for Day 3 as well with 2,258,000. Apter defeated eight-time bracelet winner Erik Seidel heads-up to be the last one standing at his table.
Michael O'Grady (2,298,000), Manuel Ruivo (2,245,000), Adrian Scarpa (2,286,000), Marko Maher (2,240,000), and Shintaro Baba (2,237,000) are the other fives players that have made it through to the final day. Baba will be looking to win a bracelet in his first WSOP cash ever.
Other big names that came in today with high hopes but couldn't make it through another day include Erik Seidel, Joe Cada, and Athanasios Polychronopoulos. The three of them managed to make it through to the heads-up portion of play, but fell one elimination short of the final table. Other stars that didn't make it through include Jennifer Tilly, Upeshka De Silva, Qui Nguyen, Kane Kalas, Nicolas Manion, Loni Harwood, Kelly Minkin, and Bill Klein.
Play will resume tomorrow at 12 p.m. local time. The players will begin play in the first level of Round 3 which features a small blind of 5,000, big blind of 10,000 and an ante of 10,000.
