Blake Schwartzbach Ends Day 2 as Chip Leader, Phil Laak and Ryan Riess Bag
Another day is in the books at the 2019 World Series of Poker and Day 2 of Event #63: $1,500 Omaha Mix is done. Blake Schwartzbach bagged the chip lead with 475,000. Phil Laak (243,000) and 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Ryan Riess (222,000) also managed to find a bag. The players will continue on Saturday, June 29, at 2 p.m. local time and the plan is to play down to the final six players.
Day 2 Action
The tournament started with 717 players and only 228 of them came back for Day 2. That number has now dwindled down to 38 players and all of them have secured a payday of at least $4,131. Only the 108 players reached the money which meant a lot of players would have to be eliminated before the money was reached.
A couple of the players that failed to make the money included James Obst, Allen Kessler, Max Pescatori, and Brock Parker. They all missed out on the min-cash worth $2,249. The first player to collect that money was Paul Siem. He finished the tournament in 108th place. Others who collected $2,249 include Felipe Duarte (104th), Anton Morgenstern (102nd), and Todd Witteles (100th).
Some other notable players that cashed but didnt makeit to Day 3 included Jeff Lisandro (95th - $2,287), James Chen (90th - $2,287), Jussi Nevanlinna (75th - $2,382), Barney Boatman (65th - $2,541), and Allen Le (59th - $2,775).
Plenty of familiar faces are still in contention for the first-place prize of $199,838 including Joe Tehan (458,000), Sean Yu (445,000), Noah Bronstein (317,000), Patrick Leonard (220,000),last year's champion Yueqi Zhu
(218,000) Andreas Klatt (102,000), and Barry Greenstein (37,000). Greenstein will start with one of the shorter stacks.
Another player that made Day 3 with a very short stack is Bart Hanson. Hanson bagged 54,000 and made another Day 3 at the 2019 WSOP. Hanson finished in fourth position in the $1,500 Monster Stack earlier in the series and he managed to win $344,079 in that tournament. He can't win that much in this tournament but he can still win his first WSOP gold bracelet.
