Hands #34-38: O'Connor Catching Vieira

Level 29 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Jamie O'Connor
Jamie O'Connor

Hand #34: Joao Vieira raised from the cutoff to 250,000. Jamie O'Connor called from the big blind and the {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop came down. O'Connor checked and Vieira continued with a bet of 280,000 and O'Connor called.

The turn was the {q-Clubs} and the Brit checked again. Vieira checked behind this time and the {10-Diamonds} completed the board on the river. They checked again and O'Connor showed {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} to win the pot.

Hand #35: O'Connor limped from the small blind and Pierre Calamusa checked. The {9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop was dealt and O'Connor check-called a bet of 200,000. The {a-Spades} was dealt on the turn. Both players checked this time and the {8-Spades} landed on the river.

O'Connor led out with a bet of 400,000 on the river and Calamusa raised to 900,000 and O'Connor quickly folded.

Hand #36: O'Connor limped on the button and Calamusa raised to 650,000. Vieira folded in the big blind and O'Connor got out of the way.

Hand #37: O'Connor raised to 250,000 from the cutoff and Joe Cada called in the big blind. The flop fell {q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and both checked. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and they both checked again to see the {6-Hearts} on the river. Cada bet 250,000 on the river and O'Connor raised to 800,000. Cada got out of the way.

Hand #38: Olivier Busquet received a walk in the big blind.

Hand #39: Vieira raised to 250,000 from the cutoff and big blind O'Connor called. The {9-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop was dealt. Both checked on the flop and the turn was the {10-Diamonds} which made O'Connor bet 400,000. Vieira called to see the {q-Diamonds} on the river.

O'Connor now fired a bet of 875,000 on the river and Vieira was clearly in a marginal spot. The chip leader eventually called and was shown {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, which was the winning hand as Vieira mucked. O'Connor is closing in on Viera's lead here, with the Portuguese player having had double the British player's stack a short time ago.
