Ayaz Mahmood Eyes his Second Career Bracelet in $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha
It will take an extra day to decide a champion of Event #80: $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha. Day 3 was scheduled to be the final day of the tournament but after 10 levels, seven players still remain. Today’s survivors will come back Saturday for a 12 p.m. restart, with the WSOP bracelet and first-place prize of $304,793 on the line.
Ayaz Mahmood will start Day 4 as the chip leader, as he ended the night with 8,430,000 chips. Mahmood started building the mountain of chips in the early levels of the day and maintained status at or near the top of the leaderboard for several of the day's latter levels.
Mahmood will be gunning for his second WSOP bracelet, with the first coming in the 2010 $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Heads-Up Championship. He already has three cashes at the 2019 WSOP, all of them in either Omaha or hold’em events.
Other big stacks at the final table include Lucas Greenwood, who rode a late-level surge to end with a 6,515,000 stack. Canada's Greenwood, a regular on the worldwide high roller tournament circuit, will seek to add his first WSOP bracelet to a resume that includes more than two million in live tournament earnings.
Rounding out the remaining players at the final table are Jeremy Kottler (5,145,00), Eddie Blumenthal (3,240,000), Peter Linton (3,115,000), Jerry Odeen (2,380,000) and Adam Demersseman (2,315,000).
A couple of WSOP bracelet winners came up short in their quests to add another championship to their resumes. Sebastian Langrock took home $11,688 for a sixth-place finish, while David “ODB” Baker almost made it to the final table, but bowed out in 10th place for a $23,625 payday.
Rania Nasreddine was the next to go out after Baker, also cashing for $23,625 for her ninth-place finish. Nasreddine spun up a short stack to start the day and lasted all the way until the final table, becoming the first casualty among the final nine after being eliminated by Greenwood. Nasreddine went over the top of a Greenwood open, for her last eight big blinds. Her king-queen wasn’t enough to double up, as Greenwood's ace-high won the pot, and her tournament run ended.
Gary Bolden, second in chips to start Day 3, finished eighth for $30,640 in prize money. Bolden was absent for the first 90 minutes of play, showing up halfway through the second level of the day. Despite the late start, Bolden was a factor at every table he was seated at throughout the day.
Other notable eliminations included Lexy Gavin (11th for $18,447), Mikhail Semin (23rd for $9,487), and WSOP bracelet winners Steve Sung (39th for $6,504) and Ankush Mandavia (36th for $6,504).
