Matt "RubberFist" Stout Looking to Nab First Gold Bracelet

Level 9 : 200/400, 40 ante
Matt Stout
Matt Stout

One of the most common names among the top finishers in WSOP.com high-stakes tournaments is "RubberFist." That one belongs to Matt Stout, as long-standing a tournament presence as any dating back to his days as "all_in_at420," the nom de guerre under which he's racked up almost $4 million in cashes.

A six-time WSOP Circuit ring winner, Stout has been killing it on the virtual felt in recent years and is in action today.

First, in 2019 he added a third ring to his collection, taking down Event #8: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller 6-Max for $47,330 in a field of 177 runners.

Then, he crushed it even harder in March 2020. He shipped Event #2: $215 No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack for $43,286. After a sixth-place finish in another $1K six-max event, Stout tasted victory again in Event #11: No-Limit Hold'em - BIG $500, banking $63,234. Along with three smaller cashes, that was enough to secure Casino Champion honors and make good on his pre-series prediction to his wife.

Stout, the founder of the Charity Series of Poker (CSOP), continued churning out solid results with eight cashes during last year's domestic bracelet series, though none saw him run particularly deep.

More recently, Stout captured his sixth ring last month when he won the WSOP.com Summer Online Circuit Event #5: $50,000 GTD PLO Big $500 6-Max for $13,955.

He'll try to keep things rolling this year and maybe even make a run at his first bracelet.

Negreanu's Day is Done Early

Level 8 : 175/350, 35 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

In the last hand of Level 8, Terry "twheeler68" Wheeler raised to 945 from the cutoff only to have Daniel "DNegs" Negreanu three-bet to 2,590 from the small blind. Wheeler responded with a four-bet to 6,562 and then called when Negreanu five-bet jammed for 23,528.

Daniel "DNegs" Negreanu: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Terry "twheeler68" Wheeler: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop gave Negreanu a gutshot straight draw and backdoor heart options, but the {6-Clubs} turn took away the latter possibility while putting out some chop options.

Unfortunately for "Kid Poker," the {j-Clubs} river was a brick and he was eliminated from the tournament for the last time as he'd exhausted the maximum two re-entries.

WSOP Legend: Doyle Brunson's Final Bracelet, 15 Years Later

Level 8 : 175/350, 35 ante
Doyle Brunson
Doyle Brunson

At the beginning of the 2005 WSOP, Doyle Brunson remained the co-king of the all-time bracelet count, tied along with Johnny Chan at nine. However, as the series drew toward its close in late June, that was no longer the case — Chan had overtaken him by winning No. 10 to stand atop the mountain alone.

Brunson was already phasing out his tournament play, having cashed precisely zero times that summer and just three times in the previous two combined, although one had resulted in a bracelet victory.

When it came time for Event #31: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed, Brunson dusted off his tournament chops and made a run.

Black Continues to Roll with Double Elimination of Negreanu & Lapka

Level 7 : 150/300, 30 ante

Daniel "DNegs" Negreanu raised to 750 under the gun and Taylor "ReadyGambo" Black called next to act. Two other players limped before Justin "LappyPoker" Lapka, who just last night captured his first WSOP gold bracelet, three-bet jammed for 8,972 from the button.

Both blinds folded, Negreanu moved all in over the top for 16,790, and Black called to put both players at risk. The other two limpers folded and all three hands were turned up.

Taylor "ReadyGambo" Black: {k-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Daniel "DNegs" Negreanu: {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Justin "LappyPoker" Lapka: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Lapka was ahead with pocket queens but the {a-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop vaulted Black into the lead thanks to his kicker. Neither the {9-Clubs} turn nor {8-Hearts} river changed a thing Black scored the double knockout and became the first player to hit a six-figure chip stack.

Meanwhile, both Lapka and Negreanu opted to re-enter the tournament.

Nine Dagger on Turn Busts Jaka

Level 7 : 150/300, 30 ante
Faraz Jaka
Faraz Jaka

Faraz "22NevaLoose" Jaka jammed all in for 10,755 from the button over a raise and a call, it folded back to the caller "NgucMammy" who called.

Jaka had the big advantage with the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} vs the {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

The flop was an innocuous {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{j-Spades} but the turn was a deadly {9-Spades} dart to pop the tens of Jaka and the {2-Diamonds} on the river busted him to force him to re-buy his stack.
