Ariel Shefer Leads 98 Survivors Into Day 2 of $1,500 Razz; David "ODB" Baker In The Hunt

Day 1 of Event #42: $1,500 Razz has ended after fifteen 40-minute levels. Over the course of 10 hours of play, Ariel Shefer built up the biggest stack, finishing the night with 254,000.

Of the 311 players who started the day, only 98 will return tomorrow to play down to the final table and an eventual champion. Among them are David "ODB" Baker, who ended up right behind Shefer with 205,000 and will try to do one better than his runner-up finish in this event in 2017. Anthony Zinno, already a two-time bracelet winner this year, bagged 103,000, while reigning WSOP Player of the Year Robert Campbell, who made the final table of this event in 2019, finished with 83,500.

Not everyone was able to survive the day. Phil Hellmuth registered late and was seated at the same table as Zinno. It would be Zinno who would take out the 16-time WSOP bracelet winner and be on the receiving end of one of Hellmuth's trademark rants. Maria Ho, Robert Mizrachi, and Adam Owen were also sent home early on Day 1.

The 98 surviving players will return tomorrow at 2 p.m. PST. They'll have their eye set on the money bubble, which will come at 47 players. And they still have their dreams of winning the WSOP bracelet and $99,188 top prize.

PokerNews will be on hand as the field moves one step closer to crowning a new WSOP champion.
