Abrams Soars Into Chip Lead

Level 30
Scott Abrams
Scott Abrams

Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Scott Abrams, who finished third in this event last year may just be the man to beat, as he's steadily boosted his stack throughout the day and has now taken his turn as the chip leader.

After Barny Boatman raised in the lojack, Abrams called in the hijack and Mark Erickson called in the big blind.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and after Erickson checked, Boatman bet and Abrams raised. Erickson then called, as did Boatman, and a huge pot was already brewing.

Erickson checked again on the board-pairing {k-Diamonds} turn, as did Boatman. Abrams then bet and received calls from both his opponents, creating a 1,800,000 pot before the river.

That river brought the {5-Clubs}, ensuring the pot would not be split. After action was checked to Abrams, he bet once more and received folds from both opponents, with Erickson mentioning that his was "embarrassing".

Regardless, Abrams took down the massive pot and is on his way to improving on his 2021 finish.

Boatman Beginning To Fight Back

Level 30

There was 220,000 in the middle on a flop of {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Bradley Anderson bet 220,000 from the cutoff and was met with a raise of 550,000 by Barny Boatman on the button. Anderson made the call.

The {2-Clubs} fell on the turn and Boatman moved all in for 525,000. In the hustle and bustle of the mothership Anderson asked "Do you have top set?"

Boatman responded in his typical dry wit; "Top set? Of course I have top set! It is the World Series of Poker and I have the nut low!"

Anderson quietly folded and Boatman dragged in the entire pot.

Minghini Getting Shorter

Level 30
Jarod Minghini
Jarod Minghini

Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Jarod Minghini opened to 120,000 under the gun and was three-bet the size of the pot (435,000) by Bradley Anderson on the button.

With just over 1,100,000 total behind, Minghini had a decision to make that could impact a significant or total portion of his stack.

After over a minute of deliberation, Minghini landed on a call, leaving himself 725,000 behind.

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and Minghini checked. Anderson thought briefly then dropped a stack of T-100,000 chips forward to put Minghini all in.

Minghini looked frustrated and splashed his cards down on the table toward the dealer as he ceded the pot to Anderson.

Erickson Increases Stack

Level 30

Big O

There were 125,000 in the middle on a flop of {j-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs} where Mark Erickson bet 100,000 from the big blind and received calls from Barny Boatman in middle position and Peter Neff in the small blind.

The {4-Diamonds} was dealt on the turn and Erickson bet 325,000 which gained a fold from Boatman and a call from Neff.

The {j-Diamonds} completed the board and Erickson fired the last barrel for 1,100,000. Neff thought it over and let his cards go to allow Erickson to drag in the pot.

Minghini Gets it in Against Nguyen

Level 30

Big O

Men Nguyen raised the size of the pot under the gun and was re-potted by Jarod Minghini in the big blind. Nguyen instantly re-potted again to put Minghini all in and Minghini called with his tournament at risk.

Jarod Minghini: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Men Nguyen: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

It was aces versus aces until the {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop brought a sweat for Minghini as Nguyen had flopped the nut flush draw.

Fortunately for Minghini, the turn {3-Spades} and river {4-Spades} brought no club for Nguyen, and the duo chopped the pot.

Boatman Sunk Slightly in Huge Split Pot

Level 29

Big O

After Bradley Anderson limped in early position and barny Boatman did likewise in middle position, Scott Abrams raised to 175,000 in the hijack.

Both opponents called to see the {8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop, then all three checked.

Business picked up on the {k-Spades} turn however, as Anderson now led out for 325,000 and was called by both Boatman and Abrams, boosting the pot over a million chips.

The {a-Spades} river appeared to be an action killer as Anderson now checked, as did Boatman. Abrams however took the initiative to cut out a large bet, as he placed 1,000,000 chips forward. Anderson then called, but Boatman folded.

Abrams showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Spades} for rivered Broadway, while Anderson tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, with his five-three playing for the low half of the massive pot.
