Hall Doubles Up Through Lijo, Becomes Chip Leader

Level 22 : Blinds 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante
Galen Hall
Galen Hall

Galen Hall called from the small blind and Lander Lijo raised to 875,000. Galen Hall went all in for 7,325,000 and Lijo snap-called.

Galen Hall: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Lander Lijo: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Hall was out-kicking Lijo and stayed ahead on the {7-Spades}{q-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop.

The {k-Diamonds} turn gave Lijo a flush draw in addition to chop outs.

The river was the {6-Clubs} and Hall's rail erupted as he became the new chip leader and left Lijo, who's seeking his first bracelet, with less than four million.

Hall Gets Big Chip Up vs. Vieira

Level 22 : Blinds 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante

Joao Vieira called from the small blind and Galen Hall checked his option.

On the {9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop, Vieira checked to Hall who bet 250,000. Vieira raised to 1,000,000 and Hall called.

The turn brought the {6-Hearts} and Vieira checked to Hall who again bet 250,000. Vieira called.

On the {k-Spades} river, both players checked and Vieira turned over {q-Spades}{j-Hearts} for queen-high. Hall turned over {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a pair of fours and the win.

Lijo Wins A Small One

Level 22 : Blinds 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante

No big pots have been played since the dinner break, with play consisting mostly of blind stealing. Lander Lijo opened to 500,000 on the button and was called by Galen Hall out of the big blind.

Hall checked on a flop of {5-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and Lijo continued for 700,000. That bet was enough to force Hall out of the hand as he surrendered a small pot.

Lander Lijo called from the small blind and Joao Vieira checked.

The flop came {q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Lijo put out a bet of 200,000. Vieira called.

On the {4-Clubs} turn, Lijo fired a second barrel, this time for 650,000. Vieira called once more.

On the {8-Hearts} river, Lijo used a time bank chip before he grabbed 2,150,000 chips for his third barrel. Vieira instantly folded and Lijo took the lead.

Hall Finds Value

Level 21 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante

Galen Hall limped from the small blind and Lander Lijo checked his option in the big blind.

Action checked through the {6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop to the {5-Spades} turn at which point Hall led out for 250,000. That bet was not enough to shed Lijo, who made the call.

Hall fired off another bet on the {5-Clubs} river, sizing up to 650,000. After some consideration Lijo called but mucked after Hall tabled {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}.

Where Are They Now: Ron “The Carolina Express” Stanley Battled Stu Ungar at 1997 WSOP

Level 21 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Ron Stanley
Ron Stanley

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Ron “The Carolina Express” Stanley, 70, was one of the most feared players in the game. In fact, he even went toe-to-toe with the legendary Stu Ungar at the final table of the 1997 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. It was there that Stanley donned a tuxedo while playing in the intense Las Vegas heat on Fremont Street.

Stanley, who has been playing poker for a living for “at least 50 years,” was recently spotted at the 2022 WSOP and was kind enough to chat with PokerNews.

“My dad used to play poker and he’d take me to the games when I was a kid,” he said about how he learned poker in the first place. “I was watching and it got pretty interesting. He was pretty good at it and I picked it up from him. It’s in my blood I guess.”

While he hasn’t had any major tournament scores since before the Poker Boom, Stanley is still on the grind.

“I play poker 5-6 days a week at least, mostly cash games,” he said. “In Vegas, I mostly play at South Point, but I’ve been in South Carolina for six months playing a lot of home games.”

Vieira Applies Pressure

Level 21 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante

Lander Lijo limped from the small blind and Joao Vieira raised to 700,000 out of the big blind. Lijo made the call to see a flop.

Lijo checked on a flop of {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{a-Hearts} and then called after Vieira continued for 400,000.

Both players checked through the {3-Spades} turn to the {9-Clubs} river where Lijo checked for a third time. Vieira, unwilling to go to a cheap showdown, fired off 2,400,000, prompting Lijo to go into the tank. Eventually, he decided on a fold to send a sizable pot Vieira's direction.
