Meir Hits the Flop Hard, "Cuz" Celebrates
The under-the-gun player raised to 16,000. Jessica Meir called from the small blind. The big blind called, too, to see a 8?Q?10? flop.
Action checked to the original aggressor, who continued with a bet of 30,000. Meir called and the big blind got out of the way before the 9? came out on the turn.
Meir checked again and this time the under-the-gun player tossed out a bet of 35,000. Meir responded by check-jamming for 107,000 and her opponent didn't wait long before tossing in the call to put Meir at risk with one card to come.
Jessica Meir: K?9?
Under The Gun: A?Q?
Meir had flopped the second nut flush with a gutshot straight flush draw. But her opponent still had the nut-flush draw. When the river came the J?, she had faded the threat and secured a full double-up.
Elsewhere in the room as this hand played out, Steve Buckner shot to his feet after tripling up when a Jx on the river gave him the best hand.
He motioned for the room to celebrate with him and suddenly, hundreds of people were cheering and clapping for the man known as "Cuz." It was one of many exuberant and amusing moments so far at the 2023 World Series of Poker.
