Skulason Makes The Right Call

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Snorri Skulason was heads-up from the cutoff against Michael Mizrachi, who was under the gun, on a completed board of K?7?2?Q?8?.

Mizrachi had bet enough to put Skulason all in for his last 36,200 and Skulason went deep into the tank. After a few minutes of consideration, Skulason flicked in a single chip to indicate a call and Mizrachi turned over 5?5?. Skulason held the K?J? for top pair and breathed a sigh of relief as he collected the pot.

Rigby Strikes Again and Knocks Out Hellmuth

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Feature Table Horseshoe Main Room, Phil Hellmuth
Feature Table Horseshoe Main Room, Phil Hellmuth

Over on the main feature table, Robert Jones raised to 2,500 with the K?K? and earned two calls as three players headed to the A?10?9? flop. It checked to the initial raiser and Jones bet-folded for 2,500 when Nicholas Rigby raised to 8,000 while Phil Hellmuth check-called out of the big blind.

That brought Rigby and Hellmuth to the 2? turn on which the latter checked. Rigby overbet 36,000 to create a pot of 64,400 and Hellmuth check-jammed for 94,500 to get called by Rigby.

Phil Hellmuth: 10?9?
Nicholas Rigby: A?10?

Hellmuth was in dire shape and the miracle escape never happened with the 5? river, sending Hellmuth to the rail in anti-climatic fashion. "Good game ... nice hand," Hellmuth said in the table chat and shook hands with Rigby before leaving the mothership.

The player in the big blind checked the action over to Daniel Garcia in the hijack who bet out for 26,000. The big blind made the call.

The river came the 6? and Garcia's opponent checked again. This time Garcia moved all in, putting the big blind at risk for their remaining 30,000 chips and their tournament life. The player folded and Garcia raked in this big pot.

Mitich Shows a Bluff?

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A player limped from early position before Jacob Mitich, beneficiary of the infamous heads-up resignation by William Pinkerton in a $400 tournament at the 2023 Potomac Winter Poker Open, raised to 5,000 from middle position. He received calls from the big blind as well as the original limper.

Action checked to Mitich on the Q?9?5? flop and he continued for 10,000. The big blind called while the early position player folded to send the two remaining players heads-up to the turn.

The big blind checked for a second time following the 10? turn and then folded after Mitich sized up to 17,000. Mitich flashed the 4? as he raked in the pot to add more to his big stack.
