Jain Powers Up On River
Chander Jain probably wasn’t expecting a lot of action when he raised 2,700 in early position.
But that’s exactly what he got when he received calls from three players, including Blair Hinkle to his immediate left and Jonathan Little in the small blind.
The dealer fanned 5?10?9? on the flop, and the checking began with Little, followed by a player in the big blind, Jain and Hinkle.
The J? appeared on the turn, prompting Little and the player in the big blind to check. When it was his turn to act, Jain took his time and looked at the board. He then reached into his stack to count out 7,500 before placing it as his bet, which saw folds from Hinkle and Little. The player in the big blind, though, called.
The dealer then placed 2? on the river, which the player in the big blind checked. Jain once again was deliberate with his action, looking down at his stack before counting out a little more than 20,000. He then moved the chips forward as his bet, and his remaining opponent immediately folded.
“Nuts!” Jain exclaimed as he attempted to table his hand face up.
The K? showed, but the other card remained down.
“It was a queen; you saw it,” Jain said to Hinkle, who nodded.
With K?Qx, Jain had the nut straight.
