Exclusive: Men 'The Master' Breaks Silence on WSOP Controversy | PokerNews Podcast #837

Level 21 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

In the 837th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway is joined by Johnnie Vibes and PokerNews Ontario Ambassador Kyle Anderson at Level 9 in Las Vegas and talk about the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP)!

Not only do they discuss the controversial shorted-pot hand from the Gladiators of Poker involving Men Nguyen, but Chad actually chatted briefly with "The Master" about it. That led to a conversation about Men "The Master" Nguyen's reputation and legacy within the poker world, and in turn to a discussion on fact versus fiction. Speaking of which, check out our five-part article series on Men Nguyen here.

From there, Anderson talks a bit about his ambassador duties for Ontario, and then talks about being put in the spotlight by Phil Hellmuth, which inspired Johnnie Vibes to chime in with his desire to be scolded by the "Poker Brat." Speaking of Vibes, he shared the details behind how the chip stack of Adrian Mateos went missing after a break in the $2,500 Freezeout, and then the crew dives headfirst into Nick Schulman winning the $25,000 High Roller for his fifth WSOP gold bracelet. Is he destined for the Poker Hall of Fame next year over Scott Seiver? It's a coin flip according to the panel.

The crew highlights a handful of other WSOP bracelet winners from the past few days, and preview the Phil Ivey vs. Jason Mercier vs. Danny Wong finale in the $10,000 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw event. Finally, get an update on the $25K Fantasy league and learn who won the BetMGM Poker Championship for $613,914!

Ryan Hughes Eliminated in 17th Place ($25,340)

Level 21 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes

Ryan Hughes raised to 90,000 in the small blind and was called by Farid Jattin in the big blind. Hughes then committed the rest of his roughly 300,000 chips on the 10?A?7? flop and Jattin quickly called.

Ryan Hughes: A?K?8?3?Xx All in
Farid Jattin: A?K?Q?10?2?

Jattin had outflopped Hughes with his two pair, and the 10? turn brought him a full house to lock up the pot. The K? river did not matter anymore as Hughes was sent out one spot before the two-table redraw.

Adam Friedman Eliminated in 18th Place ($25,340)

Level 21 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Adam Friedman
Adam Friedman

Adam Friedman raised to 105,000 in the hijack and Nitesh Rawtani called on the button which saw everyone else fold.

The flop rolled out J?7?6? and Friedman bet 285,000 while engaging in some friendly banter with Rawtani.

"I've got good cards," Friedman said.

"So do I," Rawtani responded "that's why i'm thinking of calling."

After some more thought, Rawtani called and the turn peeled off a 4?. Friedman moved all in for 310,000 and Rawtani called almost immediately.

Adam Friedman: A?A?10?9?5? All in
Nitesh Rawtani: A?9?7?4?2?

Rawtani held sevens and fours with the nut low, while Friedman held aces with the ace-high flush draw and an inferior low. The river peeled off the 4?, which was no help to Friedman as while his flush was completed, Rawtani made a full house.

The five-time bracelet winner wished his tablemates luck as he exited the tournament area.

Anderson Applies Pressure

Level 21 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Calvin Anderson has been active to start Day 3, taking down a number of pots.

Tomasz Gluszko opened to 60,000 from middle position and Calvin Anderson defended his big blind.

Both players checked through the J?5?8? flop to the 5? turn where Anderson led out for 60,000. Gluszko made the call.

The 8? river saw Anderson bet again, this time a much meatier 200,000. That bet was enough to convince Gluszko to get out of the way while questioning the evaporation of an apparent earlier friendliness between the two as the stakes progressively increase.

Rocco Pots Nuts

Level 21 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Michael Rocco raised to 105,000 from the hijack before Ryan Hughes flat-called in the cutoff. Rocco checked to Hughes on the Q?J?9? flop, after which the latter made a bet of 75,000.

Rocco called before both players checked the K? turn. On the 8? river, Rocco threw in a pot-sized bet of 435,000. Hughes spent a few moments in the tank before sliding in a call.

Rocco tabled A?10?7?4?2? for the nut straight and raked in the pot when Hughes' cards were added to the muck.

Calvin Anderson opened to 75,000 from the cutoff and was called by Alfred Atamian on the button. Shiva Dudani then potted for 330,000 out of the small blind. Anderson came back over the top and both Atamian and Dudani got their remaining chips into the middle to setup a three-way all in.

Shiva Dudani: A?J?8?4?2? All in
Alfred Atamian: A?Q?6?4?2? All in
Calvin Anderson: A?9?8?5?3?

The board ran out Q?Q?A?10?6? to give Atamian the scoop with the flopped boat, sending Dudani to the rail in 19th place.
