Christopher Chung Leads the Final 17 in $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship

Level 17

Christopher Chung

Day 2 of Event #45: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship has come to an end here at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas with Christopher Chung rising to the top after bagging 1,345,000 in chips. Not far behind him is Patrick Moulder with 1,195,000, and rounding out the top three is mixed-game legend Benny Glaser, who managed to end with 1,125,000.

Chung already has multiple cashes at this years World Series of Poker, including a deep run in the Seven Card Stud event a little over a week ago. Last year, Chung placed runner-up in a Limit 2-7 Triple Draw event and will surely be looking to leverage his chip lead to take down his first bracelet.

By the time late registration closed, the event had 281 entries, generating a prize pool of $1,683,300. The eventual winner will take home $399,988 in addition to the coveted gold bracelet.

Day 2 Action

Day 2 saw 29 additional players join the fray before late registration ended. While most of the late arrivals were eliminated shortly after entering, Steve Zolotow managed to run up a stack and navigate it to a bag. The only other late registrant who lasted the day was Glaser.

Among those to bust out before reaching the money included Alex Livingston, Ryutaro Suzuki, David Benyamine, Jesse Lonis, Tyler Brown, Nick Schulman, and Bob Slezak who got his chips in good against Nacho Barbero in Razz, but was eliminated after Barbero drew to a seven.

Hand-for-hand play began two off the money and poker legend Phil Ivey was the first to go after falling to Barbero in Razz. Peter Rouviere was the unfortunate bubble boy after he also committed the rest of his chips in Razz and ended up making a ten against Chungs six.

A slow but steady flow of eliminations followed the money bubble. Among those who managed to cash but fell short of Day 3 include Eric Wasserson (28th), Roland Israelashvili (24th), Jeff Madsen (21st), and Brad Ruben (18th) who busted just before the day ended after getting notched by Mike Leah in a hand of Razz.

The tournament resumes on Wednesday, June 19 at 1 p.m. local time. Play will begin on Level 18, which features 10,000/20,000 blinds with 20,000/40,000 betting limits. Players will be sent on 10-minute breaks after each level and the plan is to bag up for the night when five players remain.

Be sure to stick with PokerNews as we race toward a final table leading to the next H.O.R.S.E. champion!
