Today sees the start of Event #50: $10,000 Razz Championship here at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
This three-day event gets underway at 2 p.m. local time, with late registration closing after ten levels (approx 2 p.m. on Day 2). There will be 15-minute breaks every two hours of play. There is no reentry in this event.
Levels 1-3 are 40 minutes in duration, Levels 4-13 increase to 60 minutes and from Level 14 onwards, blinds escalate to 90 minutes.
The starting stack is 60,000 chips, with the plan for Day 1 to play nine levels. For the surviving players or late registrants, Day 2 resumes at 1 p.m. Thursday and wraps up after eight more levels play out. Day 3 is when a winner will be crowned.
Last summer, poker veteran and 2016 WSOP Main Event finalist Jerry Wong reigned supreme to become the king of Razz. He bagged his first WSOP bracelet after topping the 123-player field and defeating Carlos Chadha in heads-up play. Along with the piece of WSOP hardware, Wong grabbed the lion's share of the $1,143,900 prize pool, cashing out for $298,682.
I'm kind of speechless, Wong said after being awarded a long-awaited bracelet. What I want to say is hello, Frisco, and give a shout-out to all my guys in Florida.
I've played a lot of cash games, and I don't think either of these two guys had a lot of experience. I played the Russians heads-up online for probably 10 years. Heads-up is very, very natural to me. Therere spots you have to figure out on the fly like I already knew, like the back of my hand.
