Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2024 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.

Today sees the start of Event #52: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (6-Handed) here at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

This four-day event gets underway at 12 p.m. local time, with late registration open for 11 levels. There will be 15-minute breaks every two levels of play, and a one-hour dinner break is scheduled after Level 6 (at approximately 6:30 p.m.). Only one reentry is permitted in this event.

The starting stack is 50,000 chips, with the plan for Day 1 to play ten 60-minute levels. For the surviving players, Day 2 resumes at 12 p.m. Friday and ends after another ten levels of play.

Last year’s event saw a field of 1,015 entries, generating a prize pool of $426,300. The winner was Weiran Pu, who defeated Norbert Szecsi heads-up to win $938,244 and his first WSOP bracelet.

"I'm so thankful. I didn't start travelling to play poker until this year. I went to the PCA and other events like EPT's and the results were not what I expected." Wu told PokerNews. "This is a big moment. It's a big surprise because the first half of this year wasn't so smooth. Right now I'm a social media influencer for poker in China. I've made hundreds of vlogs, but this one may be my biggest."

Barbero Running Hot

Level 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Nacho Barbero
Nacho Barbero

Early position opened to 1,100 and the button three-bet to 4,000. Nacho Barbero four-bet out of the small blind to 12,000 which forced a fold from the original raiser. The button, however, five-bet shoved for around 40,000 and Barbero snap-called.

Button: A?K? All in
Nacho Barbero: A?A?

Barbero's opponent was already out of his seat upon seeing the pocket aces. The Q?2?5?3?8? runout didn't help and he was sent to the rail.

Barbero jokingly commented after the hand "I play so good, first hand I bust someone flush over flush, then aces to ace-king!"

Soika Knocks Out Klein

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Ihar Soika
Ihar Soika

With four players seeing a board of Q?4?2?3? a player in the small blind checked and Bill Klein checked behind from the big blind. A player in early position bet 2,500 and was called by Ihar Soika in the hijack before the small blind check-raised to 8,500. Klein moved all in for 11,400 and the original better folded.

Soika asked for confirmation that the small blind could not reopen the action if he called and after confirming this was the case he made the call. The small blind called as well creating a sizable pot going into the river.

On the 4? river the small blind checked and Soika bet 23,000. The small blind briefly went into the tank for a couple minutes before opting to call.

Klein and the small blind both had the wheel straight with A?5? and A?5? respectively but Soika turned over Q?Q? for queens full of fours to eliminate Klein (who may choose to reenter) and drag in a colossal pot.

With around 25,000 chips in the pot and a board that read J?8?3?2?5?, Rania Nasreddine had checked it over to Daniel Rezaei, who bet 18,000 on the river.

"Is it a total bluff or do you have something?" asked Nasreddine before she eventually called.

Rezaei flipped over J?10? for a pair of jacks, and Nasreddine mucked.

Maria Konnikova

Maria Konnikova opened to 1,200 from under the gun and Joe McKeehen three-bet to 4,000 from the button. Konnikova made the call.

The flop came 9?5?2? and Konnikova check-called a 3,100 continuation bet from McKeehen.

Konnikova check-called another bet from McKeehen on the 10? turn, this time for 11,500.

On the 7? river Konnikova checked and McKeehen virtually moved all in, committing his entire stack of roughly 35,000 minus one T-100 chip. Konnikova raised with a covering stack and McKeehen called off with his last chip.

McKeehen had A?A? for an overpair but Konnikova had made the nut flush on the river with A?3? to send McKeehen to the rail and continue accumulating chips.
