Today sees Day 1b of Event #80: $800 Independence Day Celebration No-Limit Hold'em here at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

The second and final flight of this event gets underway at 10 a.m. local time, with late registration open for 12 levels. This event allows for one reentry per flight. There will be 20-minute breaks every four levels, with a 75-minute dinner break at the end of Level 16 (~7:00 p.m.)

The starting stack is 40,000 chips, and the plan is to play 22 30-minute levels. For the surviving players, Day 2 resumes at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, and plays down to a winner.

This is a new event for the 2024 WSOP. PokerNews traditional coverage starts from Day 2.

Day 1a saw 2,864 players enter, but only 150 progressed to Day 2. Ivan Denev bagged up the chip lead with 2,480,000 chips, followed by the in-form Michael Phillips (2,010,000), and two-time bracelet winner Mark Seif (1,895,000).

Anyone who wants to return for Day 2 with a top-ten stack must turn their 40,000 starting stack into at least 1,485,000.
