No Showdown for Joyce

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Adrian Mateos opened 60,000 in the cutoff and Toby Joyce came along from the big blind.

Both players checked to the 9?8?5?2? turn, where Joyce led for 120,000 and Mateos called.

The 4? landed on the river, and Joyce continued for 400,000. Mateos gave it about 30 seconds of thought before mucking his hand.

Fortunate Fritz Survives

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Pierre Calamusa opened in the cutoff and then snapped off with the covering stack after Manuel Fritz moved all in for 295,000 out of the small blind.

Manuel Fritz: A?9? All in
Pierre Calamusa: A?Q?

Fritz was dominated but turned the tables on the 10?3?9? flop. Calamusa was unable to retake the lead on either the 4? turn or 10? river to send a good portion of his stack over to his opponent.

Baldwin Eliminates Volkmann

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Bruno Volkmann
Bruno Volkmann

Viktor Blom opened from under the gun to 50,000 and Bruno Volkmann shoved from the hijack for 410,000. Eric Baldwin then shoved for just over 1,000,000 from the cutoff, which got the rest of the table, including Blom, to fold.

Bruno Volkmann: K?J? All in
Eric Baldwin: K?K?

Volkmann didn't get any help from the 5?10?7?4?4? which meant he was eliminated.

No Showdown for Calamusa

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Rodrigo Daher opened 50,000 in the cutoff and Pierre Calamusa defended the big blind.

When the A?8?7? flop hit the felt, Calamusa check-called 45,000 from Daher.

The K? turn was checked through to see the 4? river and Calamusa pushed two stacks across the line for a bet of 250,000. Daher's cards flung into the muck and the dealer pushed the pot the other way.

Two Tough Hands for Mateos

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Adrian Mateos came into the third and, at least according to the structure sheet, final day as the second largest stack but just suffered two unfortunate hands to take a big hit to his stack.

On the first hand, Mateos opened to 50,000 from under the gun before Toby Joyce three-bet to 300,000 on the button, leaving himself just 70,000 behind. The blinds got out of the way to send the action back to Mateos, who wasted little time moving all in with the covering stack. Joyce did not immediately call, most likely due to the imminent payjump rather than because he faced a real decision, then committed his remaining chips to the pot.

Toby Joyce: A?10? All in
Adrian Mateos: K?K?

Joyce had run right into cowboys to leave himself needing quite a bit of help to survive. That help was forthcoming on the J?A?9? flop with nothing changing on either the 4? turn or 3? river to put the bad beat on Mateos for the double.

The very next hand Lynn Phan moved her short stack into the middle on the button and was looked up by Mateos in the big blind.

Lynn Phan: A?4? All in
Mateos: K?3?

This time Mateos was a slight dog and could not find a winner on the 5?4?7?A?5? runout to lose even more chips.

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Bruno Volkmann opened 50,000 under the gun and Fahredin Mustafov three-bet 100,000 from the cutoff. Volkmann called.

When the A?Q?4? flop hit the felt, Volkmann checked and Mustafov fired 45,000 across the line. Volkamann quickly folded.

Lococo Keeps Firing

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Alejandro Lococo
Alejandro Lococo

Alejandro Lococo opened 50,000 on the button and James Chen defended the big blind.

The dealer spread a flop of A?10?8?, and Chen check-called a bet of 30,000.

When the K? hit the turn, Chen check-called another bet, this time Lococo bet 95,000.

The K? completed the board on the river and Chen checked for a final time. Lococo tanked for about a minute before stacking a bet of 410,000 and pushing it across the line. After a few moments, Chen mucked his hand.

Queen Falls to Quads

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Alexander Queen
Alexander Queen

Picking up the action on the turn, Nick Palma in the big blind was involved in a hand with Alexander Queen from under the gun.

With the board reading A?8?8?8?2? and around 275,000 in the pot Palma checked. Queen bet 75,000 before calling a raise to 150,000 from Palma.

The A? river put a full house on the board and saw Palma bet enough to force his opponent all in. After only a moment's hesitation, Queen called off for his remaining 225,000 holding A?3? for the high boat but was felled by Palma's 9?8? for quads to bring the tournament down to the final four tables.
