Christopher Vitch Leads After Day 1 of the $1,500 8-Game Mix

Day 1 of Event #21: $1,500 8-Game Mix 6-Handed attracted a field of 472 players, creating a prize pool of $637,200, and at the end of an exhausting 10 levels of play it is Christopher Vitch who leads the remaining players advancing to Day 2.

It was tight at the top between Vitch and Alex Luneau (72,400) for the chip lead at the end of the day, but Vitch eliminated David Bach in one of the last hands of the night where he flopped a flush against the Aces of Bach in Pot-Limit Omaha.

There were bracelet winners galore at the start of the day, with many names taking the opportunity to play in an oft-spread mix of poker variants such as 8-Game. These included David "Bakes" Baker, Chris Bjorin, Marcel Vonk, Kenneth Aldridge, Vanessa Selbst, Bruno Fitoussi, David Diiorio, Anthony Zinno, Jared Bleznick and Konstantin Puchkov. None of these players would advance to Day 2.

Early chip-leader was Walter Treccarichi who eliminated a player after flopping a set against his opponent's set of nines, but never really kicked on from his early peak and exited quietly shortly before the final break of the day.

Defending champion Paul Volpe registered late but didn't last long as he too was eliminated before the end of play.

There are still some big names left in the field ahead of Day 2, most notable of whom is Daniel Negreanu who bagged up 57,300 after chipping up early, and using relentless aggression in his pursuit of yet another deep run at this year's WSOP.

Other names include five-time bracelet winner Jason Mercier (11,700) and his wife Natasha Mercier (11,900), three-time bracelet winners Barry Greenstein (3,800) and Eli Elezra (22,400), and former November Niner Josh Beckley (33,000).

Seventy-one players will cash and the money bubble is expected to burst tomorrow, with 71st place worth $2,259. However, tomorrow is all about putting players in as good a position as possible for making a deep run towards the first prize of $145,577 and the much-coveted WSOP bracelet.
