How Quickly Things Change

Hold'em:

Howard Lederer raised from the button, Ivo Donev three-bet from the big blind and Lederer called. The flop was {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}. Donev bet and Lederer called. The turn was the {2-Spades}. Donev checked, Lederer bet and Donev called. The river was the {Q-Diamonds}. Donev immediately bet out and Lederer shook his head ever so slightly before making the call.

It was {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} for Donev, {Q-Clubs} {9-Spades} for Lederer, and Donev's kicker played, winning him the pot.

Donev's rush during this hold'em round has boosted his stack to 267,000.

Donev Doubles Through Lederer

Hold'em:

All in on the turn of a {7-Spades}{J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} board with {Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, Ivo Donev is looking good for survival in the face of Howard Lederer's {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}. No miracles were witnessed as the river bricked out with the {4-Clubs}, and Donev doubled through to 140,000.

In the great words of a British sports commentator, "The atmosphere here is so tense at the moment that if Elvis were to walk in with a chip buttie, you be able to hear the vinegar on his chips sizzle."

Ivo Falling Fast

Hold'em:

Ivo Donev called the small blind, Howard Lederer raised from the big blind, Donev three-bet and Lederer called. Donev bet in the dark before the flop came down {8-Spades} {7-Clubs} {6-Diamonds}. Lederer called. Donev bet dark again, and the turn landed the {2-Hearts}. Lederer called. The river was the {4-Spades} and both players checked.

Lederer showed {A-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} for a pair of sevens. A disgusted Donev tabled {A-Hearts} {10-Clubs} as the pot was shipped Lederer's way.

Donev is down to 76,000.

Minor Comeback

With a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp and steam shooting out his ears, short stack Ivo Donev made an inevitable raise from the button, only to be swiftly called by Sherkhan Farnood in the big blind. However, any defense was short-lived as Farnood check-folded to a 10,000 bet on the {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop.

Every pot is vital for Donev now as he remains the lowest stack of the three.

A Wheel Nice Hand for Farnood

Stud 8:

With {4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{8-Spades} showing, Ivo Donev called a bet on what looked like every street in the face of Sherkhan Farnood's {5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, including a reluctant call of 20,000 on the final face-down card. Whilst Donev had {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a set of eights, Farnood scooped the lot with {A-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} for the wheel.

Donev drops down to 135,000, whilst Farnood shoots up to 440,000. However, Howard Lederer remains your current chip leader with 541,000.

Mind the Gap

The action has slowed markedly since Jeff Duvall's elimination, our remaining three players taking a deliberate, methodical approach to three-handed play. The last round of razz featured seven out of eight pots which were taken down by a completion on third street, and only one proceeding any further (a small pot won by Sherkhan Farnood on fifth street).

Farnood and Donev's stack sizes are nearly equal, while Lederer has them both out-chipped by nearly 2-to-1.

Main Event Satellites

Whilst we await our third man to drop, just a quick note to inform you of the Main Event satellites on offer this week here at the Empire Casino in Leicester Square.

According to my secret source (Oh, okay, card room manager Paul Whiting), tomorrow, Thursday 25th September at 8pm, there will be a 50 No-Limit Hold'em super satellite with a 2,000 starting stack, 20-minute blinds and a 60-minute rebuy period.

If the Poker Gods are on your side and you are one of the winners of this event, you will automatically earn your seat into the 1,000 No-Limit Hold'em mega satellite to be staged on Friday 26th September at 3pm. This event will provide a generous 10,000 in chips with a 30-minute clock and already has 55 runners. You may also buy straight in if you wish.

Qualify through the mega satellite and you're home and dry with a guaranteed seat into the 10,000 WSOPE Main Event. Good luck to any PokerNews readers who attempt to qualify via this route, and don't forget my percentage for passing on the message.
