Like Godzilla v Rodan, The Chip Giants Go To War; Negreanu Victorious

The big chip stacks aren't afraid to play each other at this point, and this hand which tilted the lead firmly back to Negreanu is a case in point.

Praz Bansi limped on the small blind, then called bb Negreanu's raise to 150k.

On the {A-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {3-Spades} flop Bansi check-called a bet from Negreanu.

The turn: {A-Spades} Now Bansi checked, but then raised when Negreanu bet 180k to 450k. After a brief think, Negreanu made the call.

The river: {Q-Clubs} Bansi had a look over at Negreanu's stack, down at this point to the 2.5ish mark. I think he even asked him for a rough countdown... this psychological battle over, he bet out a wopping 1,100,000.

Negreanu pretty much instacalled, flipping a winning {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}. It looked as Bansi's hand sailed toward the muck that he had been at it all along with the pure air of {4-?} {5-?} , which may have been spades for a turned flush draw but ended up being just five-high.

Bansi Bumping His Lead Up

Daniel Negreanu raised to 140,000 on his button and Barry Shulman called out of the small blind -- but Praz Bansi made it what looked like 525,000 out of the big blind, and before the dealer had even finished counting the reraise, both Negreanu and Shulman had folded.

Shulman Doubles Through First Hand Back

This hand started with a misdeal and a change of card for Negreanu when the {2-Spades} popped out face-up. It turned out to be very important, for when Shulman shipped his 1 million in on the button, Negreanu now found he had {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades} and called. Shulman showed {J-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} .

Flop: {6-Clubs} {10-Spades} {4-Spades}
Turn: {10-Clubs}
River: {J-Spades} for an overkill house for Shulman and a double up.

The loss of that pot moves Negreanu into second place chipwise, while Shulman's 2,000,000 is a lot more playable than 1,000,000.

No Sur-Praz-es for Bansi - Cool Customer Collects Most of Shulman's Stack

Bansi: Undaunted
Bansi: Undaunted
What a hand happened just now as we drift into another 20 minute break - it shifted the chip tide most conspicuously back to Bansi and left Barry Shulman all but crippled.

They saw a flop of {4-Spades} {10-Spades} {J-Diamonds} , on which Shulman check-called Bansi's bet of around 180k.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and this small, innocuous looking card set off a storm of chips - Shulman checked, Bansi bet 350k. Then Shulman check-raised a mighty 1,050,000 total - around half his remaining chips!

Bansi looked a bit taken aback, but thought quietly for a while, knee shaking under the table quite visibly from the tense rail (who were all standing up now, white knuckled). Suddenly, he announced all in. Everyone was quiet in expectation of the next all-in showdown, but as the final seconds of the level ticked away, Shulman passed!

Now Bansi has 4,335,000, while Shulman is left with just 1,000,000 or so.

The Hero-Zero, Zero-Hero Transition Complete

What an amazing final table this has been - Daniel Negreanu, short stack at start of play today is now Big Leader and looking confident like only a man who just knocked out another man who at some point today had seven times his stack can be.

In every hand running from the elimination of Mr. Mercier until the break, Negreanu's been in there, whether reraising Praz Bansi 400k preflop and picking up some chips, or getting to the river vs. Barry Shulman with {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} on a board of {8-Clubs} {4-Spades} {5-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {2-Clubs} only to lose to Shulman's {4-Clubs}-X, he's pretty much part of the furniture as far as action is concerned.
