Blast From the Past

Remember way back in the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event when Joe Hachem first came to prominence? Do you remember who he beat heads-up to capture the title and etch his name into poker history? It was the jovial and easy-going Steve Dannenmann, who has laid relatively low since his deep run.

Last year, PokerNews caught up with the CPA from Maryland in their popular Where Are They Now? series to find what Dannenmann has been up to over the last seven years. Today, we know he's right here in Cannes looking to redeem himself and capture his first gold bracelet.

In a recent hand, the board read {6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} when Fabien Perrot bet 500 into Dannenmann, who responded with a pot-sized raise to 2,100. Perrot thought long and hard before tossing in the call, and he looked disgusted when Dannenmann rolled over {9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Spades} for the nuts. With that, the 2005 WSOP Main Event runner-up is off to a good start.
