Erik Friberg Eliminated in 12th Place (£12,174)

Erik Friberg
Erik Friberg

What do you not want to hear when all in and called? Could it be Jeff Madsen saying, "I had all your outs?"

Down to a whisper of chips, Erik Friberg got it in preflop with {10-Spades} {6-Spades} {5-Spades} {7-Diamonds} vs. Karl Mahrenholz's {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} {6-Hearts} {J-Hearts}.

He seemed happy with the {6-Clubs} {2-Spades} {10-Hearts} flop, and the {8-Hearts} turn, but the {A-Clubs} river ended his dreams of WSOPE final table glory. A few words in Swedish to Chris Bjorin, and off he went.

Same Hand Eliminates Sam Stein (14th) and Sean Dempsey (13th - both £10,104)

The following hand had even more fireworks, like a kid who found a £20 on the pavement on Guy Fawke's Night. Jeff Madsen raised to 10k, Sean Dempsey made it 30k, big blind Sam Stein went for the all-in (15k) and Madsen called.

Threeway on-their-backs:

Stein: {4-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs}
Dempsey: {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {6-Diamonds}
Madsen: {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}

The flop came {10-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {7-Hearts} but no one had the hearts... the turn was the {3-Clubs} and the river the {9-Spades} giving Madsen nines and tens for the win and the double KO. And a stack nearing 200k.

Stein of Ail

Sam Stein, short stack
Sam Stein, short stack

Poor Sam Stein - it's not been his day at all, while opponents around his table double up from his once fat stack. Even former chip leader Chris Bjorin had taken enough damage to be covered by Stein in the hand which doubled him...

The hand started with four limps on Chris Bjorin's big blind, which he checked. On the {4-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} flop Bjorin bet out 20k, and utg Stein raised him - no one else was interested. Bjorin was, though, and got it all in right there holding {A-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {9-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} while Stein tabled {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}.

The turn and river were {3-Spades} {9-Diamonds}, the river bringing the nut flush for Bjorin and sending him back over 200k. Stein ended with 19k and the big blind, so we knew he'd probably not be sitting back next hand...

Steve Jelinek Eliminated in 15th Place (£10,104)

Steve Jelinek - 15th place
Steve Jelinek - 15th place

Andrew Miles raised to 10,500 under the gun and Jeff Madsen flat-called in the small blind before Steve Jelinek attempted to go all in from the big blind - he had to settle for a pot-sized raise (42,000) with 14,500 behind. Miles folded, but Madsen decided to give him a spin and put him in. Jelinek called and they were on their backs.

Jelinek: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Madsen: {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Board: {7-Hearts}{q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

Madsen rivered his straight, and we are down one of our bracelet winners.

First Double to Dempsey

When Sam Stein made it 10k to go preflop, it passed to small blind Sean Dempsey, who pushed forward 12k. The ungenerous might think he thought it had been folded round and was raising the big blind, but in any case he was forced to make the call and they saw a flop of {K-Spades} {J-Spades} {8-Hearts}. That didn't work out too badly for Dempsey, who promptly shoved for 22,500, called with a bit of a sigh by Stein.

Dempsey: {A-Spades} {2-Spades} {7-Clubs} {5-Hearts}
Stein: {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}

The flush hit on the {6-Spades} turn and continued spreading on the {4-Spades} river and Dempsey is up to 70k while Stein hits the 60k mark.

Actually, One of the 15 'Sitting Out'

Felipe Ramos, pictured yesterday when here
Felipe Ramos, pictured yesterday when here

Felipe Ramos, fourth in chips, is currently represented by a little lake of unstacked chips and a sad deflated plastic bag over the back of his chair. It'll take a good while for 140k to blind off, though, so whatever's keeping him he has time to get back in the game.

Off We Go

The final 15 players (interesting note - the two real veterans here, Willie Tann and Chris Bjorin, were the first two players in their seats) are all arrived, and the clock is running.

Good luck, all!
